‘Acting it out really makes it stick in your brain’
INTRODUCTION: Peer simulation is a method of simulation-based education (SBE) whereby students are educated to portray patient roles for peers. This potentially delivers accessible, high-impact, low-cost SBE that could be utilised in lower resourced settings. However, the most effective method of educating students to portray patient roles is currently not known. This study aimed to determine if the method of education for patient portrayal impac…

The association between chronic pain and pre-and-post migration experiences in resettled humanitarian refugee women residing in Australia
Our results show that there is a high prevalence of chronic pain in refugee women across the initial years of resettlement in Australia. This may be in part due to pre-migration factors such as age and migration pathway, but more significantly the post migration context that these women settle into such as rurality of settlement, poorer general health and perceived discriminatory experiences. These findings suggest that there may be many unmet he…
Do young people with neurological conditions in residential aged care use hospitals differently than those in the community? Evidence from Victorian hospital data, 2014–2017
This study describes the duration and reasons for hospitalisation for three cohorts of younger adults with neurological conditions who either used residential aged care (RAC) or lived in the community. Hospitalisations as a clinical event indicate conditions for which younger people in RAC may need support as they move into community-based housing. Data describing 3 years of hospitalisations in Victorian public hospitals and emergency departments…
Perceptions of aquatic physiotherapy and health‐related quality of life among people with Parkinson’s disease
BACKGROUND: Enablers for people with Parkinson's disease (PD) participating in aquatic physiotherapy have been identified, and exercise improves health-related quality of life (HRQoL) but it is unclear whether all enablers and barriers for aquatic physiotherapy specific to the PD population have been explored. OBJECTIVE: To describe HRQoL in people with PD who have undertaken aquatic physiotherapy, and explore their perceptions and attitudes rega…

Prevalence and correlates of falls in a middle‐aged population with osteoarthritis
People with osteoarthritis (OA) are at a higher risk of falls and fall-related injuries. However, there is limited knowledge of the burden and correlates of falls in middle-aged people with OA. Using data from the Osteoarthritis Initiative, this study aimed to determine the prevalence and correlates of falls among middle-aged people with OA. A total of 1,019 adults aged 45-64 years with OA were included in this cross-sectional analysis. The preva…
Perceptions of falls and falls prevention interventions among Personal Alert Victoria clients
This paper explores the perceptions and experiences of falls among Personal Alert Victoria (PAV) clients and identifies barriers and enablers to engagement in falls prevention interventions. Data were collected via semistructured telephone interviews (n = 12) and a client survey with open-ended and closed-ended questions (n = 46). Descriptive statistics and thematic analysis was guided by the COM-B model (capability, opportunity, and motivation) …
Understanding the profile of Personal Alert Victoria clients who fall
Personal response systems are used to support frail, older people, and people with disabilities to live independently in their own homes. This paper describes the patterns, characteristics, and outcomes of Personal Alert Victoria (PAV) clients who experience a fall. It also examines the current falls prevention referral practices of assessors who determine whether an older person would benefit from a personal response system. Deidentified data on…
