    Open Access•Maaris Raudsepp, Triin Roosalu•ARTICLE•Methis Studia humaniora Estonica•2024•References: 3

Teesid: Sõjakäsitlus tavateadvuses on paljukihiline: selles on nii isikliku/perekondliku kogemuse elemente kui ka kollektiivsete ajalookujutluste ühtlustavaid mõjusid. Esimene maailmasõda on meist ajas sellisel kaugusel, kus see on muundunud sündmuse esialgsest kommunikatiivse mälu vormis meenutamisest institutsionaliseeritud kultuurimälu osaks. 2014. aastal viidi kahekümnes Euroopa riigis läbi üliõpilaste küsitlus, selgitamaks tänapäeva noorte k…

  • Social representations of European history by the European youth: A cross-country comparison

Open Access•Pierre Bouchat, Rosa Cabecinhas et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social and Political…•2023•References: 18

The present manuscript examines the way young Europeans represent Europe’s history. A study conducted in 11 European countries (N = 1406 students in social sciences) shows that the characters considered most important in the history of Europe are mostly men linked either to WW2, authoritarianism, or conquests and empires. Although these appear later in the rankings and despite some imbalance between countries, Europe’s history is also associated …

  • The gender pay gap—What's the problem represented to be? Analyzing the discourses of Estonian employers, employees, and state officials on pay equality

    Open Access•Kadri Aavik, Pille Ubakivi‐Hadachi et al.•ARTICLE•Gender Work and Organization•2023•Cited by: 1•References: 8

The gender pay gap (GPG) remains significant in most countries and is a key indicator of gender inequality in society. Qualitative research on the GPG is scarce, yet, qualitative perspectives on the GPG are valuable as the ways in which the GPG is understood and talked about shape actions to tackle it. This article focuses on how the GPG is represented in the context of work and organizations, inspired by the “What's the Problem Represented to be…

  • Greedy elites and poor lambs: How young Europeans remember the great war

Open Access•Pierre Bouchat, Laurent Licata et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social and Political…•2019•Cited by: 3•References: 9

The present study examines current social representations associated with the origins of the Great War, a major event that has profoundly affected Europe. A survey conducted in 20 European countries (N = 1906 students in social sciences) shows a high consensus: The outbreak of the war is attributed to the warring nations’ leaders while the responsibility of the populations is minimized. Building on the concept of social representation of history …

  • Generations in Estonia: Contemporary Perspectives on Turbulent Times

    Open Access•Raili Nugin, A Kannike et al.•BOOK•Generations in Estonia•2016

This book provides the international reader with the first study of different generations and intergenerational relations in Estonia. The chapters highlight generational patterns in the 20th and 21st centuries, with the volume as a whole taking an interdisciplinary approach. Sharing the idea that generations are dynamic, that their borders are blurred and change over time, and that their construction is interdependent, the authors have each chose…

  • Why Is It So Difficult to Understand the Theory of Social Representations

    Open Access•Maaris Raudsepp•ARTICLE•Culture & Psychology•2005

Voelklein and Howarth's article characterizes social representations theory (SRT) in the light of criticism from British discursive psychology and focuses on a number of critical issues that are consistently misinterpreted in theoretical interpretations of SRT. I argue that on a more general level, difficulties in proper understanding of SRT stem from its underlying dialectical assumptions. Some critical points related to SRT that are most often …

  • Environmental Belief Systems: Empirical Structure and a Typology

    Open Access•Maaris Raudsepp•ARTICLE•Trames Journal of the Humanities…•2001

The article presents an overview of some theory-based classifications of environmental belief systems and compares them with an empirical structure of environmental beliefs in an Estonian sample (N = 440). Based on factor analysis, the main organizing principles of environmental beliefs in the Estonian context are described. Respondents were classified into four groups (pragmatic, conservationist, radical ecocentric and indifferent) according to …

  • A Conceptual Framework for Studying Environmental Mentality and Behavior

Open Access•Mati Heidmets, Maaris Raudsepp•ARTICLE•Trames Journal of the Humanities…•2001

While studying the environmentalism in a social psychological context, one is faced with a great variety of notions and concepts, which might be analytically divided into two broad classes -environmental mentality and environmental behavior. The first refers to the whole complex of mental representations of environment, as well as representations of human-environment relations (knowledge, beliefs, attitudes, evaluations), the second refers to pat…

  • Values and Environmentalism

    Open Access•Maaris Raudsepp•ARTICLE•Trames Journal of the Humanities…•2001

The aim of this study is to describe the links between the system of values and environmental orientations in the Estonian context. The sample consisted of 440 residents of Hiiumaa Island (representative random sample of the adult population). Value orientations were measured using the abridged version of the Schwartz value scale; composite indexes of ecological activity and various aspects of environmental awareness were constructed. The hypothe…

  • Some Socio-Demographic and Socio-Psychological Predictors of Environmentalism

    Open Access•Maaris Raudsepp•ARTICLE•Trames Journal of the Humanities…•2001

The article aims to reveal the relative impact of various socio-demographic and socio-psychological variables on empirical indicators of environmentalism (environmental concern, ecological behavior, environmental attitudes and beliefs). Standard multiple regression models were used for analyzing the data of a questionnaire study of a representative sample of an Estonian subpopulation (N = 440). Among socio-demographic variables age, sex, educatio…
