  • Analysis of Body Perception, Preworkout Meal Habits and Bone Resorption in Child Gymnasts

Open Access•Alessandra Amato, Patrizia Proia et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

The beneficial effects of physical activity on body image perception and bone are debated among artistic gymnasts. Gymnasts seem to be at greater risk of developing body dissatisfaction, eating disorders and osteoporosis due to inadequate nutrition and attention to the appearance of the body. The objective of this work was to investigate the association between the artistic gymnast and a more favorable body image compared to their sedentary peers…

  • Heavy Metals and PAHs in Meat, Milk, and Seafood From Augusta Area (Southern Italy)

Open Access•Calogero Di Bella, A Traina et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2020

Heavy metals and PAHs were measured in animal foodstuffs from Augusta area in order to evaluate the potential human health risk associated to their consumption. All heavy metals were detected in seafood while most of the inorganic contaminants were 1 for baby, children and teenagers, indicating a non-carcinogenic risk for these age categories. The CRAs overcame 1*10-5 for all age categories and for elderly, by seafood and cow milk ingestions resp…

  • Development of a Rapid and Eco-Friendly UHPLC Analytical Method for the Detection of Histamine in Fish Products

Open Access•Antonello Cicero, Francesco Giuseppe Galluzzo et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

We developed, validated, and confirmed with proficiency tests a fast ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography with diode array detector (UHPLC-DAD) method to determine histamine in fish and fishery products. The proposed method consists of two successive solid-liquid extractions: one with a dilute solution of perchloric acid (6%) and the second only with water. The instrumental analysis with UHPLC provides a very fast run time (only 6 min) wi…
