Industrial Transformation and Environmental Sustainability
The synergistic management of carbon emissions and PM2.5 pollution (SCPM) represents a critical challenge for China’s 6G. This study examines the impact of China’s “Made in China 2025” (MIC) industrial policy on SCPM using a time-varying difference-in-differences approach with panel data from 284 Chinese cities (2003–2021). We construct SCPM as an interaction term between carbon emissions and PM2.5 concentrations to capture their synergistic envi…
Path to sustainable development
Intelligent industrial transformation and technological innovation fuel China's sustainable development. We examine whether industrial intelligence and technological innovation improve economic growth and environmental quality using provincial data from China from 2006 to 2020. We used panel co‐integration techniques (fully modified OLS and dynamic OLS) for analysis. The results showed that industrial intelligence drives economic growth and envir…
Does Internet development affect urban-rural income gap in China? An empirical investigation at provincial level
This study aims to examine the impact of Internet development on the urban-rural income gap in China. By using a provincial level panel dataset comprising 31 of China’s provinces, it analyzes and compares the effects of the eastern, central, and western regions over the period of 2005–2016. The results show that Internet development aggravates the gap in the central region much more than that in the eastern and western regions. The trade openness…

The effect of trade on the gender gap in labour markets
This study analyses the impact of international trade on the gender gap in labour force participation while considering the moderating role of information and communication technologies (ICT). Our analyses of panel data from 79 developing economies over 2006–2019 reveal that international trade narrows gender gap, and the interaction between trade and ICT is likely to widen it. Further, the impact of these two parameters on the gender gap varies …
Toward sustainable development
The direct and moderating impact of digitalization on the gender gap in the labor force participation rate is explored in this study. By analyzing the panel data of the G20 countries for the period of 2006–2021, we find that (1) the rising level of digitalization tends to narrow the gender gap in the labor force participation rate, with a greater gender gap‐narrowing effect in high‐income countries than in upper‐middle and lower‐middle income cou…
How do industrial robots applications affect the quality upgrade of Chinese export trade
Has the Internet increased FDI, economic growth, and trade? Evidence from Asian economies
This study examines the causal relationship between the Internet and economic factors in Asian economies between 1997 and 2017. The economic factors consist of gross domestic product (GDP), foreign direct investment (FDI), imports, and exports. A comparative analysis of East, South, and Western Asia was conducted using a panel vector autoregressive model. The findings show bidirectional causality between FDI and Internet use in South Asia, unidir…
Does e-commerce narrow the urban–rural income gap? Evidence from Chinese provinces
Purpose A wide urban–rural income gap exists in China despite the implementation of pro-rural policies. Additionally, with the proliferation of the internet and information technology, the promotion effect of e-commerce on the economy has become apparent. Accordingly, China has been actively encouraging rural households to participate in e-commerce activities. This study aims to examine the effect of e-commerce on the urban–rural income gap. Desi…
