    Beatrix Himmelmann•ARTICLE•Nietzscheforschung•2023

    Open Access•Beatrix Himmelmann•ARTICLE•Nordlit•2022

  • The Court of Reason

Camilla Serck‐Hanssen, Beatrix Himmelmann et al.•EDITOR•BOOK•Court of Reason•2021

The Proceedings present the contributions to the 13th International Kant Congress which was held at the University of Oslo, August 6-9, 2019. The congress, which hosted speakers from more than thirty countries and five continents, was dedicated to the topic of the court of reason. The idea that reason stands before itself as a tribunal characterizes the whole of Kant's critical project. Without such a court, reason falls into conflict with itself…

  • Nietzsche's Ethics of Power and the Ideas of Right, Justice, and Dignity

Beatrix Himmelmann•ARTICLE•The Journal of Nietzsche Studies•2017

In this article, I first show in which ways Nietzsche's doctrine of the will to power informs his understanding of practical ideas, such as right, justice, and dignity. Subsequently, I challenge his view by contrasting it with approaches that emphasize the significance of thinking beyond power relations. Particularly, I draw on arguments brought forward by three major figures of the philosophical tradition, namely Plato, Kant, and Schiller, all o…

  • Why Be Moral?

Open Access•Robert B Louden, Beatrix Himmelmann et al.•EDITOR•BOOK•Why Be Moral?•2015

What reasons do we have to be moral, and are these reasons more compelling than the reasons we have to pursue non-moral projects? Ever since the Sophists first raised this question, it has been a focal point of debate. Why be Moral? is a collection of new essays on this fundamental philosophical problem, written by an international team of leading scholars in the field.

  • Kant und Nietzsche im Widerstreit

    Kant-Gesellschaft Kant-Gesellschaft, Nietzsche-Gesellschaft…•EDITOR•BOOK•Kant und Nietzsche Im Widerstreit•2005

[Kant and Nietzsche in Dispute] The papers trace the crucial paths which lead Kant and Nietzsche in different directions. At the same time they demonstrate the links between them - in the light of the relevant discussions on the range and limits of rationality, on problems of ethics, on aesthetics and on the philosophy of nature and history, discussions on which both philosophers have exerted an important influence.
