  • Family Perspectives of University Reading Clinic/Literacy Lab Experiences

    Open Access•Theresa A Deeney, Cheryl L Dozier et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Teacher Education•2024•References: 35

Family partnerships should be a central component of teacher preparation. Although research provides family engagement strategies, little research offers teacher educators guidance from the perspectives of families themselves. The purpose of this convergent mixed-method study was to begin to fill the void in the literature by investigating family perspectives of theirs and their children's experience in 10 reading clinic/literacy lab literacy spe…

  • Technological change and generic effects in a university Herbarium

    Open Access•Ryan Mccarty, John M Swales•ARTICLE•Discourse Studies•2017•References: 15

Herbaria principally host and study collections of dried vegetal specimens, and the curators and researchers employed there are mainly systematic botanists working on plant taxonomy. Twenty years ago, a textographic investigation of the University of Michigan Herbarium was conducted as part of a larger study. In this follow-up inquiry, we investigate what sort of changes have - or have not - occurred over the intervening period. Two of the five o…

  • Kant’s Derivation of the Formula of Universal Law

    Open Access•Ryan Mccarty, Richard Mccarty•ARTICLE•Dialogue•2010•References: 10

Critics have charged that there are gaps in the logic of Kant’s derivation of the formula of universal law. Here I defend that derivation against these charges, partly by emphasizing a neglected teleological principle that Kant alluded to in his argument, and partly by clarifying what he meant by actions’ “conformity to universal law.” He meant that actions conform to universal law just when their maxims can belong to a unified system of principl…

    Ryan Mccarty, Richard Mccarty•ARTICLE•American Psychologist•2002

The American Psychologist is the official journal of the American Psychological Association. As such, it is a valued outlet for articles dealing with reviews of current topics in psychology, policy issues, and critiques of current research. S. O. Lilienfeld submitted a manuscript to the journal that was accepted by the ad hoc action editor; however, the action editor's decision was later overruled by the editor, and additional changes to the manu…

  • Catecholamines, Stress, and Disease

Ryan Mccarty, Richard Mccarty et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•1996

OBJECTIVE: Research on the relationship between physiological responses to stressful stimulation and the onset of psychosomatic illnesses has been an area of intense interest for many years. Studies using animal models have contributed significantly to this field of inquiry by taking several complementary approaches. METHOD: Three specific research strategies taken in our laboratory will be highlighted here. Each involves studies in conscious, fr…

  • Kantian Moral Motivation and the Feeling of Respect

Ryan Mccarty, Richard Mccarty et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of the history of…•1993

Kantian Moral Motivation and the Feeling of Respect RICHARD MCCARTY RESPECT FOR LAW is a unique, moral feeling which can be known a priori, according to Kant.' He also thought we have an obligation to cultivate our capacity for moral feeling.' These are perplexing claims, even for Kantian sympathizers. How can a feeling be known a priori? What could be the point of a moral obligation to cultivate a capacity for such a feeling, especially in Kanti…

  • Food deprivation

    Open Access•Ryan Mccarty, Richard Mccarty et al.•ARTICLE•Aggressive Behavior•1981•References: 22

The southern grasshopper mouse (Onychomys torridus) is a predatory and aggressive rodent native to the semi-arid scrub deserts of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. Its natural diet consists primarily of arthropods and small vertebrates. In this study, we have evaluated the effects of food deprivation on the predatory behavior of adult male and female grasshopper mice to crickets (Acheta domesticus) and laboratory mice (Mus muscu…

  • Effects of D- and L-amphetamine on the predatory behavior of Southern grasshopper mice, onychomys torridus

    Open Access•Ryan Mccarty, Richard C McCarty et al.•ARTICLE•Aggressive Behavior•1976•References: 16

Adult male and female southern grasshopper mice (Onychomys torridus) were tested for predatory aggression toward cricket prey 1 hr after single injections of d-amphetamine (1 or 10 mg/kg) or 1-amphetamine (1 or 10 mg/kg). At the lower dose, d-amphetamine decreased feeding behaviors, while I-amphetamine altered attack-related behaviors. At the higher dose, both stereoisomers appeared to be equipotent in significantly decreasing 5 measures of preda…

  • Adrenal Response of Male Mice to Variations in Living Space

Open Access•Ryan Mccarty, Richard Mccarty et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1974

CFW and CF 1 male mice were weaned, isolated for 7 days, then randomly assigned to one of three cage sizes for an additional 7 days. There was a significant increase in adrenal weights for males of both strains after exposure to the smallest living space. A significant decrease in final body weights occurred after housing CFW males in medium size cages and CFW and CF 1 males in small cages. The possible influence of spatial parameters on the endo…
