  • The effects of endurance training on muscle oxygen desaturation during incremental exercise tests

Open Access•Assaf Yogev, Paolo Colombo et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Sports and Active…•2024

This meta-analysis showed no effects of endurance training on SmO 2 min during an IET. Our results showed a trend for an effect of training on the relationship between Wpeak and ΔSmO 2 min, with no effect for V ̇O 2 peak and ΔSmO 2 min. It is possible that SmO 2 min is not affected by endurance training, and may be used as a physiological marker for improvements in submaximal performance rather than at peak

  • Comparing the reliability of muscle oxygen saturation with common performance and physiological markers across cycling exercise intensity

Open Access•Assaf Yogev, Jem Arnold et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Sports and Active…•2023•References: 1

Introduction Wearable near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) measurements of muscle oxygen saturation (SmO 2 ) demonstrated good test–retest reliability at rest. We hypothesized SmO 2 measured with the Moxy monitor at the vastus lateralis (VL) would demonstrate good reliability across intensities. For relative reliability, SmO 2 will be lower than volume of oxygen consumption (V̇O 2 ) and heart rate (HR), higher than concentration of blood lactate acc…

  • The effect of severe intensity bouts on muscle oxygen saturation responses in trained cyclists

Open Access•Assaf Yogev, Jem Arnold et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Sports and Active…•2023•References: 2

Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) quantifies muscle oxygenation (SmO 2 ) during exercise. Muscle oxygenation response to self-paced, severe-intensity cycling remains unclear. Observing SmO 2 can provide cycling professionals with the ability to assess muscular response, helping optimize decision-making. We aimed to describe the effect of self-paced severe intensity bouts on SmO 2 , measured noninvasively by a wearable NIRS sensor on the vastus la…

  • Shifting Perspectives

    Open Access•Jamie Greig, Hannah Nelson•ARTICLE•Journal of Information Policy•2022•References: 2

This study analyzes how the COVID-19 pandemic has altered individual perceptions of Internet service providers (ISPs) and Internet importance, reliability, and status as an essential public utility (EPU). The authors found that lower income, younger, women, and racial-ethnic minority participants had lower ISP and Internet reliability perceptions. The pandemic increased perception of Internet as an EPU by 15% and access to in-home Information and…

  • It's Complicated—Adolescent Grief in the Time of Covid-19

Open Access•Louis Weinstock, Dunja Dunda et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2021

Presently, there is a real possibility of a second pandemic occurring: a grief pandemic. There are estimated to be over 1 million children and young people experiencing bereavement because of Covid-19. Adolescent grief is unique due to bio-psycho-social factors such as increased risk-taking, identity-formation, and limited capacity for emotional regulation. In this article, we will argue that adolescents are at increased risk of developing compli…
