Carbon neutrality and renewable energy development in China
Building a new type of power system with wind and solar as the dominant body of sources is expected to play the key role for China to achieve carbon neutrality. Transiting from the fossil fuel dominating power system to a renewable dominating system requires both the technology progress and the institutional changes. The total direct investment cost of China’s power system decarbonization is estimated to be about 67.6 trillion yuan, which consist…
Development of a behavior change intervention to improve physical activity adherence in individuals with metabolic syndrome using the behavior change wheel
The Behavior Change Wheel provided a systematic approach to designing a behavior change intervention, which helped improve the health outcomes and reduce medical burdens and economic burdens among individuals with metabolic syndrome. The findings suggested that potential intervention should pay special attention to increasing knowledge in metabolic syndrome, imparting skills of physical activity, offering a supportive environment, and providing s…
Modelling energy efficiency in China
This paper combines energy demand modelling with stochastic frontier analysis to investigate the changing trends, variations and determinants of energy efficiency for 27 Chinese provinces over the period 1995 to 2014. An aggregate ‘frontier’ energy demand function and an efficiency function are estimated simultaneously. We obtained several findings. First, the energy intensity is not a particularly good indicator of energy efficiency. Second, the…
