Research Note
This article examines 64 incidents in which the police pursued or "safely followed" vehicles that failed to stop for them and which resulted in a serious injury or a fatality. Although the majority of the 71 individuals killed or injured were occupants of the pursued car, eight were pedestrians and seven were in vehicles colliding with the pursued vehicle.
