  • Are Published Idea Hearing Officer Decisions Representative

    Open Access•Anastasia D'Angelo, J Gary Lutz et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Disability Policy…•2004

The authors of this study examined published hearing officer decisions under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act to determine whether they were representative of the frequency and outcomes for the larger group consisting of published decisions and the much greater number of unpublished decisions. An empirical analysis of the fully adjudicated hearing officer cases in six randomly selected states revealed that the published sample was …

  • Roy Table

    Open Access•J Gary Lutz•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•2000

Roy’s largest root criterion is one of several multivariate test statistics available to the data analyst. Although it has a number of desirable properties to recommend it, no transformation to a more commonly tabulated statistic (such as the F ratio) exists, and the published tables for Roy’s criterion are quite limited in terms of levels of statistical significance and values of the distribution parameters. This article describes a PC-based pro…

  • The Relationship between Canonical Correlation Analysis and Multivariate Multiple Regression

    Open Access•J Gary Lutz, Tanya L Eckert•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•1994

The similarities between multivariate multiple regression and canonical correlation analysis have been inconsistently acknowledged in the literature. The present article shows that, although the stated objectives of these two analyses seem different, aspects of the analyses themselves are mathematically equivalent. A multivariate multiple regression analysis that incorporates discriminant analysis as part of its post hoc investigation will produc…

  • Mglm

    Open Access•J Gary Lutz, Leigh A Cundari•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•1993

A PC-based program is described, the purpose of which is to perform estimation and hypothesis testing for multivariate linear models with options for post-hoc investigation, including discriminant analysis and the determination of the most significant parametric function. The program, which is equally useful as a teaching or a research tool, is based on the formulation of the multivariate general linear model. The user is given complete freedom o…

  • A Turbo Pascal Unit for Approximating the Cumulative Distribution Function of Roy'S Largest Root Criterion

    Open Access•J Gary Lutz•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•1992

A unit is described which approximates the cumulative distribution function of Roy's largest root criterion using results given by Pillai (1965). Functions within the unit can be used to find cumulative (and tail) probabilities for a sample value of Roy's criterion or the critical value of Roy's criterion for a given level of significance. As the only approximations to this distribution currently exist in tabular or chart form, the unit has utili…

  • Uglm

    Open Access•J Gary Lutz, Leigh A Cundari•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•1990

A PC-based program is described, the purpose of which is to perform estimation and hypothesis testing for univariate linear models with options for post-hoc analyses including the determination of the most significant parametric function. The program, which is equally useful as a teaching or a research tool is based on the formulations of the univariate/unrestricted general linear model. The user is given complete freedom of expression for models…

  • A Method for Constructing Data Which Illustrate Three Types of Suppressor Variables

    Open Access•J Gary Lutz•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•1983

A method is presented for the construction of an artificial data set which will illustrate the behavior of the traditional, the negative, and the reciprocal suppressor variable in multiple regression analysis. It extends the method of Dayton (1972) and includes the previously unrecognized reciprocal suppression defined by Conger (1974)

  • Delta2

    Open Access•J Gary Lutz•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•1980

A program is described the purpose of which is the assessment of the importance of the independent variables in a multiple regression equation. Five alternate importance measures are provided with primary focus on the statistic proposed by Green, Carroll, and DeSarbo (1978). Input to the program can be in raw data or matrix form and can appear on punched cards or on alternate input media. The program is limited to 20 independent variables but can…

  • Hotelling's Single Sample T

    Open Access•J Gary Lutz•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•1979

A specialized vector used to interpret rejected multivariate single sample hypotheses, introduced in any earlier article by the writer, is shown here to be equivalent to the vector that would be obtained if discriminant analysis techniques were to be applied to a single sample problem

  • Apriori

    Open Access•Elizabeth H Conard, J Gary Lutz•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•1979

A program is described the purpose of which is to select the most powerful among four methods for conducting a priori comparisons in an analysis of variance. The approaches considered are: orthogonal contrasts, Scheffe's method, Dunn's method, and Dunnett's test. The user supplies the program with the specifications of the analysis including number of cells, sample sizes, contrast coefficients, and the desired experiment-wise Type I error risk. T…

  • The Multivariate Analogue of JAN

    Open Access•J Gary Lutz•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•1977

The purpose of the univariate version of JAN (Judgement Analysis) is to take a situation in which judges are rating subjects on a single attribute and, through regression techniques, "capture" the policy of each judge and iteratively cluster the judges on the basis of policy similarity. The present paper extends this procedure to situations in which the judges rate the subjects on a multiplicity of attributes. Computational simplification is disc…

  • Mjan

    Open Access•J Gary Lutz•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•1977

The purpose of this program is to perform both univariate and multivariate judgment analysis. More specifically, given a situation in which a group of judges rates a set of subjects on one or more characteristics, and given one or more known attributes of the subjects, the program provides a (linear) model for each judge's rating policy and then iteratively clusters the judges according to the similarity of those policies. The program, which is w…

  • On the Rejection of Hotelling's Single Sample T

    Open Access•J Gary Lutz•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•1974

Multivariate hypotheses regarding the centroid of a single population can be tested using Hotelling's T 2 . Upon rejection of such an hypothesis, there seems to be no available technique by which the relative contribution of each variable to the rejection can be gauged. An examination of the derivation of the T 2 statistic, however, shows that while T 2 is the only nonzero eigenvalue of the matrix ND -1 ( X - μ 0 )( X - μ 0 )', the elements of it…

  • A Computer Program for Hotelling's T2 for Single or Related Samples With Optional Post-Hoc and Contrasting Univariate Analyses

    Open Access•J Gary Lutz•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•1974

The program performs Hotelling's T 2 for single or related samples. It has utility as a research tool in that it follows the test with any of three post-hoc analyses: simultaneous confidence intervals for individual variables, for user-supplied linear compounds, and for the optimum linear compound of the variables. Also, the program has utility as an instructional tool in that it tests more than one hypothesis for a given data set and provides co…
