Network analysis of frontal lobe alpha asymmetry confirms the neurophysiological basis of four subtypes of depressive behavior
As well as providing a firm basis for using these DB subtypes in clinical settings, these findings provide a reasonable explanation for the inconsistency in previous FLA-depression research
Which Aspects of Psychological Resilience Moderate the Association between Deterioration in Sleep and Depression in Patients with Prostate Cancer
This study aimed to investigate the moderating effect of psychological resilience on sleep-deterioration-related depression among patients with prostate cancer, in terms of the total score and individual symptoms. From a survey of 96 patients with prostate cancer, 55 who reported a deterioration in their sleep quality since diagnosis and treatment completed the Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale, Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, and the Insomnia …

Boards of Disability Service Provider Organizations for Adults With Intellectual Disability and Their Role in the Delivery of Quality Service
Provision of quality service by disability service providers for adults with intellectual disability is a core responsibility. It is central to access and participation in social, community goods, and services so that individuals are effectively supported in achieving their goals and aspirations and live a long life. Dimensions of quality service encompass how well the individual receives what they want, disability-related regulatory and legislat…
Deterioration in Sleep Quality Affects Cognitive Depression in Prostate Cancer Patients
Men who suffer from prostate cancer (PCa) need to make important decisions regarding their treatment options. There is some evidence that these men may suffer from sleep difficulties due to their cancer or its diagnosis and treatment. Although sleep difficulties have been associated with cognitive depression in other samples of men, they have not been examined in PCa patients, despite the importance of decision-making for these men. This study wa…
Effects of Subtypes of Child Maltreatment on CRP in Adulthood
In order to evaluate the effects of specific forms of childhood maltreatment (CM) upon adult C-reactive protein (CRP) concentrations, and to further describe the potentially confounding role that recent life stress and depression hold in that relationship, 221 participants from rural Australia ( M age = 44yr, SD = 17.8yr) completed self-report questionnaires and provided a blood sample. There were no sex differences in any variables across the 91…
Direct and Inverse Correlates of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder among School-Age Autistic Boys
Young people with autism are often bullied at school, a potential direct correlate of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). This may be compounded by their difficulties in social interaction. Alternately, some of these young people may develop 'coping strategies' against bullying that may have an inverse association with PTSD. As a vulnerable population for PTSD, a sample of 71 young males with autism were surveyed for their self-reported experi…
Age-related differences in the association between autistic sons’ challenging behaviour and maternal anxiety and depression
The associations between sons' challenging behaviour and mothers' anxiety and depression were investigated in four age-subgroups of boys with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their mothers (n = 49). Significant correlations were found only for the 6-yr-old boys' irritability and their mothers' anxiety (r = .808) and depression (r = .762), and for the 7-yr-old boys' stereotypy and their mothers' depression (r = .745). MANOVA and ANOVA found no signifi…
“How I was then and how I am now”
Homelessness is universally regarded as an aversive condition, to be remedied by the provision of appropriate housing. However, although there are many reports of the negative effect of homelessness upon the mental health of homeless persons, relatively little has been reported regarding the change in mental health that might accompany being housed. To further understand that change, 71 previously-homeless persons from Regional Australia complete…
Does “Male” Depression Exist in Rural Australian Men
To determine whether males exhibited a different form of depression to Major Depressive Disorder, 85 male volunteers completed a survey questionnaire about background variables, the Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS) and the Gotland Male Depression Scale (GMDS). Almost 50% of the variance in the GMDS was not accounted for by the SDS, and the sensitivity of the SDS against the GMDS showed that about 15% of those men who were identified as depresse…
