Gender Role Conflict and Male Nursing Students' Academic and Program Success
Background: Despite calls to increase the proportion of men in nursing, little change has occurred, and anecdotal accounts suggest poor retention of men in nursing programs. This study explored the role that gender role conflict (GRC) may play in men's academic success. In this paper, we consider our experiences in a community bread-baking project, part of the international Bread Houses Network. We explore the performative and narrative power of food memories – as recounted and created during Bread House gatherings – to serve as sites where inter/cultural identities, differences, and dis/connections are made and negotiated.
