  • Estimating county level health indicators using spatial microsimulation

Open Access•Erich Seamon, Mohamed Megheib et al.•ARTICLE•Population Space and Place•2023•References: 3

Given the importance of understanding health outcomes at fine spatial scales, iterative proportional fitting (IPF), a form of small area estimation, was applied to a fixed number of health-related variables (obesity, overweight, diabetes) taken from regionalized 2019 survey responses (n = 5474) from the Idaho Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS). Using associated county-level American Community Survey (ACS) census data, a set of con…

  • Characteristics of the Safe At Home Instrument for Assessing Readiness to Change Intimate Partner Violence

Open Access•Audrey L Begun, Christopher Murphy et al.•ARTICLE•Research on Social Work Practice•2003•Cited by: 3•References: 7

Objective: This article describes the development, factor structure, concurrent validity, and predictive validity of the Safe At Home instrument, a 35-item self-report measure designed for social work assessment of individuals' readiness to change their intimate partner violence behaviors. Method: Multisite data (five sites, a total of 1,359 men at intake) addressed questions concerning instrument properties. Results: Initial exploratory factor a…

  • The Community's Tolerance of the Mentally Ill

Open Access•Ian F Brockington, Ian Brockington et al.•ARTICLE•The British Journal of Psychiatry•1993

A survey of attitudes to mental illness was conducted in a quota sample of about 2000 subjects in Malvern and Bromsgrove. Factor analysis showed three main components – benevolence, authoritarianism, and fear of the mentally ill. Residents of Bromsgrove, which is served by a traditional mental hospital, were slightly more tolerant than those living in Malvern, which has a community-based service, and has seen the closure of two mental hospitals i…
