  • Practice Notes

Lloyd Owen, Helen Cleak et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Family Studies•1999

In this set of practice notes there are two contributions from the field. We commonly encounter some enthusiasm from practitioners about contributing to practice notes. Few however factor doing such things into the process of managing their time. All allocate time for relating to clients and most seem to manage the case notes that go with that task. Lloyd Owen, Helen Cleak et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Family Studies•1998

Mark makes a theory to practice observation on the underaddressed issue of termination in work with clients. This is followed by two contributions from the relationship counselling and…

Contributors to practice notes in this issue cover a wide spectrum of activity but all connect in some way with the theme of this special addition. Relationships with others impact enormously on both our perceptions of self and our physical and emotional capacity to make our way in the world. A positive family and the opportunity it affords to connect to wider social networks cradles and expands the depth and breadth of relationships. When loss o…

Open Access•James G Barber, Brian Cooper et al.•ARTICLE•Research on Social Work Practice•1994

This social work study reports on the immediate effects of relocation on a small group of intellectually disabled clients. Results revealed an increase in the short term on clients' overall level of activity and their skills in relation to recreation and leisure. Most importantly, clients reported being happier in the community. On the other hand, there was no evidence of improvement on a standardized measure of quality of life, although this fin…
