Acquiring vulnerability indicators to geo-hydrological hazards: An example of mobile phone-based data collection
Geo-hydrological risk reduction is a key issue for local governments in Italy. In this context, a collaboration was undertaken between multiple actors in the La Spezia municipality aimed at: (i) monitoring building characteristics, using specific and valuable indicators, and (ii) increasing the knowledge of geo-hydrological hazards across residents and local land planners (iii) implementing local emergency civil protection plan. An extensive mobi…
The relation of spatio-temporal distribution of landslides to urban development (a case study from the Apulia region, Southern Italy)
The paper describes the multitemporal landslide inventory map prepared for the urban areas of Motta Montecorvino and Volturino, two municipalities located in the Southern Apennines (Apulia Region, Italy). These territories show a high propensity to landslides of different types and magnitude, which periodically interfere with the anthropic structures and infrastructures. For the study area, the spatial and temporal distribution of landslides is d…
Geomorphologic landslide inventory by air photo interpretation of the High Agri Valley (Southern Italy)
Landslide inventories provide the knowledge basis for many geomorphological applications and also planning and emergency management. Detailed landslide inventories should also be prepared where pre-existing inventories are available, as knowledge updates. In this paper, we present a new geomorphological landslide inventory for an area of the High Agri Valley, Southern Italian Apennines. The map was prepared through systematic interpretation of hi…

El movimiento nacional-popular: Gino Germani y el Peronismo
In the last few years, the academic interest in Argentina about the history of Peronism has not receded. The literature dedicated to this political phenomenon has incorporated new topics, questions, and methodologies. At the same time, the history of the social sciences in Argentina has emerged as a prolific area of research. The book under review, written by Samuel Amaral, can be related to these two scholarly undertakings but does not fully cor…
Geology of the central part of the Amatrice Basin (Central Apennines, Italy)
A 1:5,000 scale geological map and 31 geological cross-sections are presented for the surroundings of Amatrice village (central Apennines, Italy), epicentral area of the first damaging earthquake of the 2016–2017 seismic sequence. This detailed geological dataset focuses on: (i) the extent, the thickness, and the internal stratigraphic architecture of the Quaternary continental deposits; (ii) the bedding and the thickness of the Miocene substratu…
Change, no matter what its source, breeds strain
Landslide inventory maps: New tools for an old problem
Landslides are present in all continents, and play an important role in the evolution of landscapes. They also represent a serious hazard in many areas of the world. Despite their importance, we estimate that landslide maps cover less than 1% of the slopes in the landmasses, and systematic information on the type, abundance, and distribution of landslides is lacking. Preparing landslide maps is important to document the extent of landslide phenom…
Landslide inventory map for the Briga and the Giampilieri catchments, NE Sicily, Italy
On 1 October 2009, a high intensity storm hit the Ionian coast of Sicily, SW of Messina, Italy. The Santo Stefano di Briga rain gauge, located 2 km W of the Ionian coast, recorded 225 mm of rain in seven hours. The intense rainfall event triggered abundant slope failures, and resulted in widespread erosion and deposition of debris along ephemeral drainage channels, extensive inundation, and local modifications of the coastline. Landslides occurre…
This article briefly describes the evolution of the cultural administration during Perón’s rule. It studies the bureaucratic reforms that brought in those years (the creation of a Sub Secretary of Culture and a Direction of Culture later on). The analysis permits to observe a cycle that goes from the expansion of the state on that regard, to budgetary cut-downs. The last phase coincides with a time in which the attempts to attract intellectuals t…
Between Institutional Survival and Intellectual Commitment: The Case of the Argentine Society of Writers during Perón’s Rule (1945–1955)
An analysis of Peronism constitutes an obligatory point of departure of any study of Argentina’s history since 1945. The advancement of the popular masses toward the Plaza de Mayo on 17 October 1945, clamoring for their new leader (the Colonel Juan Domingo Perón) inaugurated a new era for this nation. For some, especially for those who marched on that day, it represented the beginning of a period of hope. For others, those who looked with stupor …
Aliados o enemigos?
