The study focuses on usability provisions of learning management systems (LMS) in a corrective service organization. Under the influence of goal-directed interaction design principles in design science, the study outlines a new innovative artifact as a conceptual LMS solution that addresses the employee-centric learning model. The collective artifact represents relevant design knowledge assistive to meeting stakeholders’ contextual learning needs…
Ethical Decision-Making in Indigenous Financial Services
This case study details how and why integrating storytelling, empathy, and inclusive practice shifted QSuper, a large Australian finance organisation, from minimal awareness to moral awareness then moral capability in the delivery of services to Indigenous customers. During the Royal Commission into Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation, and Financial Services Industry, QSuper were recognised for their exemplary service with Indigenous custom…
Breathing life into climate change adaptation
The exploration of evolutionary biology and biological adaptation can inform society's adaptation to climate change, particularly the mechanisms that bring about adaptability, such as phenotypic plasticity, epigenetics, and horizontal gene transfer. Learning from unplanned autonomous biological adaptation may be considered undesirable and incompatible with human endeavor. However, it is argued that there is no need for agency, and planned adaptat…
The Capstone Journey
The focus of this paper is the development of a capstone management course and the application of educational action research through continual learning. In this article, we use the continual learning frame of plan, do, study, and act to underpin an educational action research design on the development of a capstone management course. As part of an Active Learning Trial, the development of the capstone experience has been captured in the embodime…
The dark side of ERP implementations
This paper explores end-user perceptions of poorly implemented enterprise resource planning systems (ERP) from the perspective of a primary frontline user. This exploration analyses three case studies – from Australia, the United Kingdom and Denmark. Through these cases, we find three areas of concern: the reaction of implemented systems to existing work processes; the suspicion among workers that management has a hidden agenda in implementing an…
Renaissance? Perceptions of Continuity and Discontinuity in Europe, c.1300- c.1550
The contribution attempts through few chosen examples to shed some light on the cultural and artistic activity on the territory of the crown lands of Bohemia in the 14th and the beginning of the 15th century, from the perspective of specific parallel with Italian humanism and the early Renaissance of the Italian trecento. The art under Venceslas IV represents paths to "another" Renaissance.
The wiki way of learning
This paper presents the argument that the use of wikis in a learning environment involves a different way of thinking, learning and knowing than perhaps many practitioners are familiar with. In particular, wikis foster collaborative, egalitarian learning that is designed to foster group interaction instead of just individual performance. Moreover, wiki based learning involves community ideals and challenging modes of interaction for both learners…
