Optimizing grain–ecology landscapes configuration
Under the global challenges of food security and the strategic need for “storing grain in the land,” it is crucial to coordinate cultivated land protection, capacity enhancement, and the “grain-ecology” balance. In most major grain-producing areas, the production intensity is approaching environmental carrying capacity thresholds, resulting in significant trade-off relationships between grain production (GP) and ecological benefits, yet their non…
Governments’ behavioral strategies in cross-regional reduction of inefficient industrial land
Disorderly urban expansion has resulted in inefficient industrial land, impeding sustainable urban development. Reducing inefficient industrial land (RIIL) is crucial for controlling pollution and bolstering industrial vitality. However, previous studies have overlooked the quantitative analysis of the intergovernmental interest game involved in cross-regional RIIL, essential for determining project outcomes. This study employs evolutionary game …
Electrospun radially oriented berberine-PHBV nanofiber dressing patches for accelerating diabetic wound healing
A dressing patch made of radially oriented poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV) nanofibers was successfully manufactured with a modified electrospinning strategy. The as-electrospun PHBV radially oriented nanofiber dressing patch exhibited uniform and bead-free nanofibrous morphology and innovative radially oriented arrangement, which was demonstrated to possess obviously improved mechanical property, increased surface hydrophilici…
Protective effect of total flavonoids of Engelhardia roxburghiana Wall. leaves against radiation-induced intestinal injury in mice and its mechanism
Effects of the built environment on residents’ subjective well-being and behaviours
Healthy city development for Chinese cities under dramatic imbalance
Assessing progress towards sustainable development over space and time
Performance and Biomass Characteristics of SBRs Treating High-Salinity Wastewater at Presence of Anionic Surfactants
Sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate (SDBS) and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), as two anionic surfactants, have diffused into environments such as surface water and ground water due to extensive and improper use. The effects on the removal performance and microbial community of sequencing batch reactors (SBRs) need to be investigated in the treatment of saline wastewater containing 20 g/L NaCl. The presence of SDS and SDBS could decrease the removal ef…
Heavy Metals in Agricultural Soils of the Lihe River Watershed, East China
Concentrations of cadmium, chromium, copper, nickel, lead, and zinc in agricultural soils at 32 sites in the Lihe River Watershed of the Taihu region, East China, and their potential ecological risks and possible sources were investigated. Enrichment factor analysis demonstrated enrichment in the order Cd > Pb > Zn > Cu > Ni > Cr. The potential ecological risk index and risk assessment code analyses indicated that, of the metals studied, Cd posed…
Factors influencing farmers' intentions for urban–rural harmony in metropolitan fringes and regional differences therein
Influence of Industrialization and Environmental Protection on Environmental Pollution
In order to quantitatively study the effect of environmental protection in China since the twenty-first century and the environmental pollution projected for the next ten years (under the model of extensive economic development), this paper establishes a Bayesian regulation back propagation neural network (BRBPNN) to analyze the typical pollutants (i.e., cadmium (Cd) and benzopyrene (BaP)) for Taihu Lake, a typical Chinese freshwater lake. For th…
Modeling of Trace Metal Migration and Accumulation Processes in a Soil-Wheat System in Lihe Watershed, China
Samples of wheat and soil were collected in the Lihe watershed in East China, the migration and accumulation processes of four common trace metals (Cu, Pb, Cd and Ni) in each part of the wheat plant (root, stem, leaf and grain) were analyzed, and a mechanistic model was proposed to simulate these processes based on wheat growth techniques. Model results show that Cu and Cd migrate more easily with wheat grains, while most Pb and Ni accumulate in …
Analysis of Historical Sources of Heavy Metals in Lake Taihu Based on the Positive Matrix Factorization Model
Analysis of sediment grain sizes and heavy metal correlations in the western part of Lake Taihu shows that the grain size of the sediment is stable as a whole. With increasing depth, the grain size tends to decrease. Heavy metals such as Cr, Cd, Pd and Sr are strongly correlated and influence each other. Based on the positive matrix factorization (PMF) model, this study classified the origin of heavy metals in the sediments of western Lake Taihu …
Optimization of Sample Points for Monitoring Arable Land Quality by Simulated Annealing while Considering Spatial Variations
With China's rapid economic development, the reduction in arable land has emerged as one of the most prominent problems in the nation. The long-term dynamic monitoring of arable land quality is important for protecting arable land resources. An efficient practice is to select optimal sample points while obtaining accurate predictions. To this end, the selection of effective points from a dense set of soil sample points is an urgent problem. In th…
