Narrowing and widening the reading divide associated with home language background: Multilevel ecological mechanisms across countries
Using PISA 2022 data from 67 countries, this study conducts a two-stage meta-analysis to examine the language-related reading divide and its multilevel ecological moderations. Education in earlier life stage may exert a lifelong effect on cognitive function as well as an indirect effect via enhancing late-life cognitive reserve such as social engagement. The cross-lagged effect of social engagement on cognitive function is significant and vice versa.
