  • Cross-species comparison of rodent and human decision-making in the Iowa Gambling Task in select neurological and psychiatric disorders

Open Access•Varsha Singh, Manjari Tripathi et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2025

Findings suggest that the task might be useful for producing reliable cross-species comparisons of causal mechanisms underlying cognitive deficits in clinical disorders. Preclinical and clinical studies could use the task to reduce the translational gap in neurobiological and clinical neuroscience in ways that might be useful in improving human health

  • Neurobehavioral Mechanisms Influencing the Association Between Generativity, the Desire to Promote Well-Being of Younger Generations, and Purpose in Life in Older Adults at Risk for Alzheimer’s Diseas…

    Open Access•Caitlin S Walker, Linda Li et al.•ARTICLE•The Journals of Gerontology…•2024•References: 8

These findings provide insight into how the brain supports complex social behavior and, separately, purpose in life in at-risk aging. Affectionate social support may be a putative target process to enhance purpose in life in older adults. This knowledge contributes to future developments of personalized interventions that promote healthy aging

  • Deformation-based Morphometry MRI Reveals Brain Structural Modifications in Living Mu Opioid Receptor Knockout Mice

Open Access•Md Taufiq Nasseef, Gabriel A Devenyi et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2018

Mu opioid receptor (MOR) activation facilitates reward processing and reduces pain, and brain networks underlying these effects are under intense investigation. Mice lacking the MOR gene (MOR KO mice) show lower drug and social reward, enhanced pain sensitivity and altered emotional responses. Our previous neuroimaging analysis using Resting-state (Rs) functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) showed significant alterations of functional conne…

  • Neuroanatomical and Symptomatic Sex Differences in Individuals at Clinical High Risk for Psychosis

Open Access•Elisa Guma, Gabriel A Devenyi et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2017

Sex differences have been widely observed in clinical presentation, functional outcome and neuroanatomy in individuals with a first-episode of psychosis, and chronic patients suffering from schizophrenia. However, little is known about sex differences in the high-risk stages for psychosis. The present study investigated sex differences in cortical and subcortical neuroanatomy in individuals at clinical high risk (CHR) for psychosis and healthy co…

  • Disc1 and Striatal Volume

Open Access•M Mallar Chakravarty, Daniel Felsky et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2012

Disrupted-in-schizophrenia 1 was originally discovered in a large Scottish family with abnormally high rates of severe mental illness, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and depression. An accumulating body of evidence from genetic, postmortem, and animal data supports a role for DISC1 in different forms of mental illness. DISC1 may play an important role in determining structure and function of several brain regions. One brain region of …
