Understanding the Influence of Perceived Usability and Technology Self-Efficacy on Teachers’ Technology Acceptance
The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) represents how users come to accept and use a given technology and can be applied to teachers’ use of educational technologies. Here the model is extended to incorporate teachers’ perceived usability and self-efficacy measures toward the technologies they are currently using. The authors administered a survey to K–12 teachers in two rural school districts in Virginia, and 99 teachers responded. We then analyz…
Modelling Situated Actions in Collaborative Hypertext Databases
The need to model users' dynamic behaviour in Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) systems arises in many contexts. This study developed a probabilistic model of the usage of an awareness-maintaining mechanism in a collaborative hypertext database system. Longitudinal time series data of user-database interaction were studied. The study found that the recurring patterns in the occurrences of the awareness-seeking event were related to sever…
Patterns in student-student commenting
The virtual classroom under consideration supports students submitting exercise answers online and comments on exercise answers that include numerical scores. Automated quality control procedures track the student scores. The patterns of scores vary as a function of the pragmatic import of these student scores. Clear consequences of commenting must be enforced in the classroom before students will engage in fruitful commenting. The managerial pro…
Interacting With Hypertext
The meta-analysis compared and synthesized the results of 23 experimental studies on hypertext. The analysis was based on 56 pairs of effect sizes and significance levels of the impact of users, tasks, and tools on interactions with hypertext. This analysis focused on three factors that prevailingly influence the use of hypertext: the cognitive styles and spatial ability of users; the complexity of tasks; and the structure of information organiza…
