Homeownership and Public Pensions in East Asia
This study examines whether homeownership has a trade-off relationship with public-pension development in Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan. Relying on a comparative historical approach, we find that while the three governments pursued homeownership societies, their interventions in housing provision and distribution varied in timing and intensity, contributing to different levels of homeownership. Historically, middle-class families in these countr…
Long-range transport of Siberian wildfire emissions reduces NO x in downwind regions
Wildfires are widely known to increase atmospheric pollutant concentrations, deteriorating air quality. However, several studies have reported that wildfires can also reduce the concentrations of certain gaseous species. This study investigated the impacts of smoke plumes from wildfires that occurred in late July 2014 in Siberia, Russia, on downwind gaseous pollutants such as carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides (NO x ), volatile organic compoun…
How long do regional Mice events survive? the case of Busan, Korea
The study examines survival times of regional meeting, incentive, convention, and exhibition (MICE) events by estimating hazard rates over time. Additionally, crucial factors for sustaining MICE events are investigated. This study utilized an innovative analytic technique—survival analysis. To estimate survival probability, 205 MICE events hosted in Busan, South Korea were collected. The survival analysis results showed the most important period …
A national pilot program for chronic diseases and health inequalities in South Korea
This study found that the pilot program for chronic diseases at the least did not contribute to the worsening of health inequalities at the individual level in South Korea. However, there was a trend showing health inequalities based on the socioeconomic level of the area. These findings suggest that additional policy measures are needed to attain equality in the management of chronic diseases regardless of the regional socioeconomic position
An Assessment of Magnitudes and Patterns of Socioeconomic Inequalities across Various Health Problems
Magnitudes of health inequalities present consequences of socioeconomic impact on each health problem. To provide knowledge on the size of health problems in terms of socioeconomic burden, we examined the magnitudes and patterns of health inequalities across 12 health problems. A total of 17,292 participants older than 30 years were drawn from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES, 2010−2012). The age-adjusted preval…
