  • Predictors of Retention in a Clinical Trial of a Fentanyl Overdose Prevention Intervention

    Jacqueline E Goldman, Carolyn J Park et al.•ARTICLE•Substance Use & Misuse•2026

BACKGROUND: Structural barriers can pose challenges to retaining people who use drugs in longitudinal research. This study assessed baseline characteristics associated with retention in a year-long clinical trial addressing whether fentanyl test strip provision decreased rates of nonfatal overdose among people who use drugs. METHODS: From September 2020 to February 2023, 505 participants enrolled in the year-long RAPIDS clinical trial. Outcome vi…

  • Persistent HIV Transmission Misconceptions Among People Who Inject Drugs in Massachusetts, USA

    Open Access•Leah C Shaw, Yuni S Jimenez et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS and Behavior•2026

Despite the widespread success of combination antiretroviral therapy in reducing overall HIV morbidity and mortality, people who inject drugs (PWID) continue to experience elevated risk of infection and suboptimal care outcomes. Addressing knowledge gaps related to HIV acquisition and transmission is essential for reducing incident cases of HIV. We assessed HIV transmission misconceptions (e.g., HIV can be transmitted through sharing cigarettes, …

  • Fentanyl test strip use and homelessness among people who use drugs in Rhode Island

Open Access•Julia E Noguchi, Yu Li et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Drug…•2026

We found that housing status was not independently and longitudinally associated with FTS use; however, people who used crystal methamphetamine were more than twice as likely to have used FTS in the past month. Future research exploring how differential housing situations may affect uptake of harm reduction services is needed to prevent fentanyl overdose

  • PrEP disclosure and discussions within social networks of people who inject drugs experiencing homelessness

    Open Access•Leah C Shaw, Katie B Biello et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2023

Findings highlight the significance of PrEP disclosure and discussions within the social networks of PWID experiencing homelessness, suggesting a need for continued social network and intervention research-particularly to establish the feasibility and acceptability of peer-based interventions for promoting PrEP-with this marginalized population

  • Delivering Preexposure Prophylaxis to People Who Use Drugs and Experience Homelessness, Boston, MA, 2018–2020

Katie B Biello, Angela R Bazzi et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•2021•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 5

Despite high need, HIV preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) utilization among people who use drugs (PWUD) remains low. Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program implemented an innovative “low-threshold” PrEP Program for PWUD experiencing homelessness in Boston, Massachusetts. From October 1, 2018 to February 29, 2020, 239 clients were linked to PrEP services, and 152 were prescribed PrEP (mean = 8.9/month), over twice the number of PrEP prescriptions…
