  • Prevalence and correlates of suicidal ideation in the general public during the fifth wave of Covid-19 pandemic in Hong Kong

Open Access•Heidi Ka Ying Lo, Joe Kwun Nam Chan et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2024

A significant proportion of people experienced suicidal ideation during the peak of fifth COVID-19 wave. Risk and protective factors identified would facilitate early identification of high-risk individuals and provision of targeted interventions to minimize suicidal ideation and risk of self-harm. Caution should be exercised due to study limitations of a cross-sectional design which precluded establishing causality among variables, and reliance …

  • Relationships between psychopathological symptoms, pandemic-related stress, perceived social support, and Covid-19 infection history

Open Access•Chi Kei Krystal Lee, Kwun Nam Joe Chan et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2024

Our findings indicate that specific interventions targeting interpersonal conflicts and concentration problems as well as facilitating stress buffering effects of social support may represent effective strategies to reduce psychological distress in university/college students during COVID-19 and should be considered for future pandemic preparedness

  • Environmental stress and emotional reactivity

Open Access•Corine Sau Man Wong, Wai Chi Chan et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2024

Existing literature has widely explored the individual roles of housing and neighborhood quality, and there is limited research examining their interactive effects on mental health. This 3-year cohort study utilized a longitudinal design to investigate the individual and interactive effects of housing and neighborhood quality on mental health among 962 community-dwelling adults in Hong Kong. Participants were asked to rate their residential quali…

  • Impact of restrictive Covid-19 measures on daily momentary affect in an epidemiological youth sample in Hong Kong

Open Access•Stephanie Ming Yin Wong, Yandy Y Li et al.•ARTICLE•Current Psychology•2023

  • Sleep problems in children with autism spectrum disorder in Hong Kong

Open Access•Man Ho Brian Leung, Sze Ting Joanna Ngan et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2023

In summary, autistic children suffered from significantly more sleep problems and co-occurring separation anxiety disorder brings greater sleep problems as compared to non-autistic children. Clinicians should be more aware of sleep problems to provide more effective treatments to children with autism

  • Prevalence and correlates of subjective cognitive impairment in Chinese psychiatric patients during the fifth wave of Covid-19 in Hong Kong

Open Access•Vivian Shi Cheng Fung, Jacob Man Tik Chan et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2023

Almost half of the sample of psychiatric patients reported cognitive complaints during fifth-wave of COVID-19 in HK. Greater depressive and PTSD-like symptom severity, and maladaptive (avoidant) coping were found as correlates of SCI. COVID-19 related factors were not independently associated with SCI in psychiatric patients. Early detection with targeted psychological interventions may therefore reduce psychological distress, and hence self-perc…

  • Effort-based decision making in schizotypy and its relationship with amotivation and psychosocial functioning

Open Access•Ryan Chu, Co Co Ho Yi Tong et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2023

Our findings indicate subtle effort-allocation abnormalities in schizotypy individuals with high levels of diminished motivation, and suggest the link between laboratory-based effort-cost measures and real-world functional outcome
