It’s Not Easy to Ask Peers and Partners to Test
Objectives The World Health Organization recommends social network-based HIV testing (SNHT) to increase HIV testing coverage and improve early diagnosis, particularly among key populations. Although SNHT has shown promising outcomes, implementing this strategy remains challenging. This study explores multilevel barriers to implementing SNHT in Tehran by exploring the perspectives of female sex workers (FSWs), their clients, pimps, healthcare prov…
Challenges and Facilitators in Scaling Up HIV Testing Among Female Sex Workers
HIV testing is essential for early diagnosis and timely linkage to care, particularly among key populations at increased risk of HIV. HIV testing rates among female sex workers (FSWs) in Iran remain low despite the availability of free and confidential HIV testing and counselling services. This study explores the barriers to and facilitators of access to and uptake of HIV testing among FSWs in Tehran. It incorporates the perspectives of multiple …
Facilitators and barriers to providing HIV psychosocial support services for adolescents living with or affected by HIV
According to the global strategy, social support and protection are crucial for adolescents living with or affected by HIV (ALWAH) and might be an important protective mechanism for their well-being. This study aimed to explore facilitators and barriers to providing HIV support services for ALWAH in Iran. This study conducted a qualitative content analysis in Iran from May to September 2022. Data were collected through individual face-to-face int…
Social Network-Based Strategies for HIV Testing Among Women
Development and validation of the geriatrics health behavior questionnaire (GHBQ)
The present study results showed that the Geriatrics Health Behavior Questionnaire had suitable validity and reliability among Iranian older adults. It is recommended to consider its comprehensiveness and yet its briefness in other populations after passing validation
Social Determinants of Adherence to Covid-19 Preventive Guidelines in Iran
To limit the new COVID-19 transmission, people must be encouraged to follow COVID-19 prevention instructions. Improving adherence to COVID-19 preventive guidelines necessitates dealing with the complexities of responding to social determinants of those guidelines. Increasing public health literacy and knowledge of COVID-19, informing people about the consequences of social interactions and cultural customs in the spread of COVID-19, strengthening…
Determinants of safe sexual behavior of female sex workers in Tehran
The findings highlighted that considering only the individual characteristics of female sex workers is not sufficient for effectively promoting condom use. Factors at the network and dyadic level should also be considered, especially the role of sexual partners. Network-based interventions may be useful which modify social relationships to create a social environment that can facilitate changes in sexual behavior
Global, regional, and national incidence, prevalence, and mortality of HIV, 1980–2017, and forecasts to 2030, for 195 countries and territories
BACKGROUND: Understanding the patterns of HIV/AIDS epidemics is crucial to tracking and monitoring the progress of prevention and control efforts in countries. We provide a comprehensive assessment of the levels and trends of HIV/AIDS incidence, prevalence, mortality, and coverage of antiretroviral therapy (ART) for 1980-2017 and forecast these estimates to 2030 for 195 countries and territories. METHODS: We determined a modelling strategy for ea…
Global, regional, and national comparative risk assessment of 84 behavioural, environmental and occupational, and metabolic risks or clusters of risks for 195 countries and territories, 1990–2017
BackgroundThe Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2017 comparative risk assessment (CRA) is a comprehensive approach to risk factor quantification that offers a useful tool for synthesising evidence on risks and risk–outcome associations. With each annual GBD study, we update the GBD CRA to incorporate improved methods, new risks and risk–outcome pairs, and new data on risk exposure levels and risk–outcome associatio…
Global, regional, and national disability-adjusted life-years (Dalys) for 359 diseases and injuries and healthy life expectancy (Hale) for 195 countries and territories, 1990–2017
BACKGROUND: How long one lives, how many years of life are spent in good and poor health, and how the population's state of health and leading causes of disability change over time all have implications for policy, planning, and provision of services. We comparatively assessed the patterns and trends of healthy life expectancy (HALE), which quantifies the number of years of life expected to be lived in good health, and the complementary measure o…
Measuring progress from 1990 to 2017 and projecting attainment to 2030 of the health-related Sustainable Development Goals for 195 countries and territories
BACKGROUND: Efforts to establish the 2015 baseline and monitor early implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) highlight both great potential for and threats to improving health by 2030. To fully deliver on the SDG aim of "leaving no one behind", it is increasingly important to examine the health-related SDGs beyond national-level estimates. As part of the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2017 (GBD 2…
