  • The Interpersonal Guilt Rating Scale 15 Item Self-Report Version (IGRS-15s): Exploring the Factor Structure and Psychometric Properties in a Sample of American Post 9/11 Active-Duty and Veteran Milita…

    Open Access•Matthew L McCue, Ashlee N Fisher et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Veterans Studies•2024

Guilt is associated with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and suicidality, all of which are prevalent problems among active-duty and veteran United States military personnel. Most research studying these associations utilize trauma-related guilt conceptualizations. However, researchers have developed and begun testing the Interpersonal Guilt Rating Scale-15 Item Self-Report Version (IGRS-15s), which has shown strong psychometric …

  • Veteran Suicide Exposure: Associations with Guilt, PTSD, and Suicidality

    Open Access•Matthew L McCue, Ashlee N Fisher et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Veterans Studies•2022

Veterans commit suicide at a rate 1.5 times greater than their non-veteran civilian counterparts. Not only is this a public health concern due to the substantial loss of life, but because of the impact on suicide survivors. Research indicates exposure to suicide by others is related to posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms, depression, anxiety, non-suicidal self-injury, and suicidality (in the form of suicidal thoughts and behaviors). The…

  • Advancing trauma research, practice, and policy through reciprocal collaborations: Introduction to a special section

Carolyn B Allard, Susan M Hannan et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2022

This is an introduction to the special section "Advancing Trauma Research, Practice, and Policy Through Reciprocal Collaborations." This collection offers examples of how partnerships with those we aim to serve, the communities and individuals affected by trauma, critically contribute to more effectually achieving our shared goals of preventing trauma and decreasing its negative effects. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2022 APA, all rights reserved…

  • PTSD, depression, and suicidality among survivors of childhood sexual trauma (CST), military sexual trauma (MST), and sexual revictimization (CST + MST)

Selena A Baca, Jennifer N Crawford et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2021

Findings support the more severe clinical impact of CST + MST-specific sexual revictimization compared with CST-only among military men and women, but also suggest that MST alone can have negative consequences similar to revictimization. While results point to the need to consider context and trauma history in future trauma research and clinical applications, they should be interpreted in light of our sample demographics, which were representativ…

  • A model for treating Covid-19–related guilt, shame, and moral injury

Open Access•Moira Haller, Sonya B Norman et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2020

During the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, people around the world have faced a myriad of heart-rending and ethically difficult scenarios (e.g., not being able to tend to a sick or dying loved one) that may lead to subsequent guilt, shame, or moral injury. Trauma-informed guilt reduction therapy is a brief intervention that helps clients accurately appraise their role in a stressful event (such as those experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic) …

  • Gender Differences in Response to Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Among Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation New Dawn Veterans

    Open Access•Robyn L Gobin, Jennifer L Strauss et al.•ARTICLE•Women s Health Issues•2019

  • Japanese Students Do See the Value of Asking About Child Abuse and Trauma in the Research Setting

Open Access•Carolyn B Allard, Elizabeth Straus et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Empirical Research on…•2019•References: 4

Despite evidence regarding the impact of childhood abuse perpetrated by close others, or high betrayal trauma, a number of barriers continue to impede research efforts, including concerns that research may do more harm than good. Research conducted with Western samples has indicated that contrary to such concerns, participants rate the benefit of participating in trauma research as outweighing costs, even when they have a history of high betrayal…

  • Predictors of differential PTSD treatment outcomes between veteran and civilian women after cognitive processing therapy

    Open Access•Robyn L Gobin, Margaret‐Anne Mackintosh et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2017

Future research should be focused on further understanding and addressing these 2 treatment outcome predictors in an effort to reduce the gap in PTSD treatment outcomes between veterans and civilians. (PsycINFO Database Record

  • Application to graduate psychology programs by undergraduate students of color: The impact of a research training program

    Gordon C N Hall, Carolyn B Allard•ARTICLE•Cultural Diversity & Ethnic…•2009•References: 6

The top 86 students were selected from a pool of approximately 400 applicants to a summer clinical psychology research training program for undergraduate students of color. Forty-three of the students were randomly assigned to 1 of 2 clinical psychology research training programs, and 43 were randomly assigned to a control condition without training. The multicultural version of the training program emphasized the cultural context of psychology i…
