  • Moral breakdowns and their (failed) repair

    Open Access•Markus Wrbouschek, Katharina Hametner•ARTICLE•Theory & Psychology•2026

Conceptualizations of ressentiment imply different assessments regarding the question whether the subject of ressentiment’s (SR) initial conflict is about constitutively socionormative concerns or whether moralizing anti-sentiments and self-glorifications ground in self-centred feelings of impotence and inferiority. Although the self-deceptive affective and cognitive dynamics of ressentiment development ultimately result in a distorted evaluative…

  • Ungleichheitserfahrungen rekonstruieren

    Open Access•Katharina Hametner, Markus Wrbouschek•ARTICLE•Sozialer Sinn•2025

  • Ressentiment As Morally Disclosive Posture? Conceptual Issues from a Psychological Point of View

  • Resonanz, Reziprozität und Ressentiment

Katharina Hametner, Natalie Rodax et al.•ARTICLE•Sozialer Sinn•2024

  • After all, I have to show that I’m not different’

Open Access•Katharina Hametner, Natalie Rodax et al.•ARTICLE•European Journal of Women s Studies•2020•Cited by: 1•References: 10

More than ever, ‘the headscarf’ is a dominant trope in contemporary ‘Western’ discourses on migration. Within controversies on Muslim ‘others’, ethnicity and gender frequently interweave. In discussions about the Muslim woman, a problematic dichotomy frequently emerges: namely the representation of a Muslim woman who wears the headscarf and is seen as ‘oppressed’ or ‘traditional’. This is opposed to the position of a Muslim woman who does not wea…

  • Cool! Bikini and lingerie instead of Burka!” – the discursive representation of Muslim women in Austrian women’s magazines

Katharina Hametner, Natalie Rodax et al.•ARTICLE•Feminist Media Studies•2019•Cited by: 2•References: 17

Within “Western” controversies, the headscarf is stylised as a symbol of “oppression” and “backwardness” while “unveiling” is simultaneously associated with “self-determination” and “modernity”. As object of a critical discourse analysis, this dichotomisation was also found in Austrian women’s magazines; “the veiled” Muslim woman was constructed as “traditional” and appeared mostly as an “object” of speech. “The unveiled” woman, however, was more…

  • From Retreating to Resisting

    Open Access•Katharina Hametner•ARTICLE•MIGRATION LETTERS•2014

Recent European integration discourses are more and more structured by neo-racist topoi based on orientalist markers of difference. In the Austrian debate people of Turkish origins are particularly affected by such ascriptions. They are marked as a group not willing to integrate and culturally not fitting into Austrian society. In this discursive conglomerate women are identified as oppressed victims, lacking education and being in need of help. …
