King Zog and the Jews in Albania before World War II
Ahmet Zog was the "King of the Albanians" from September 1928 until April 1939, when the country was invaded by fascist Italy. During his reign Albania experienced an unprecedented period of relative stability and progress. Zog's government took the first small steps towards the creation of a modern European country. The Impact of Corruption on Migration
The fight against corruption remains one of the most fundamental problems for Western Balkans societies and governments. Hiring in the public sector is often determined by networks and clientelism. The exchange of favours and loyalty to a patron are the “normal” ways to access economic opportunities. As a result, a considerable portion of the population considers emigration as the only path to succeed. The main objective of this study is to analy…

This paper aims to investigate some of the most important factors of tourism demand in Southern European Countries. The System Generalized Method of Moments is applied to a panel of 15 relevant tourist generating countries, for the period from 2005 to 2021. The considered explanatory variables follow the expected signs and have statistically significant effects on international tourist arrivals. The results suggest that tourism demand is negative…

The rescue was facilitated by a unique mixture of factors, but the main common motivation of Muslim, Catholic, and Orthodox rescuers was Besa, the crucial element of Kanu…
Determinants of migration and the gravity model of migration – application on Western Balkan emigration flows
The main objective of this work is the investigation of the determinants of emigration from the Western Balkans through the well-known gravity theory. We include in the gravity equation three original regressors, associated with typical concerns for the Western Balkans: standard of living, unemployment and corruption. Diagnostic tests indicate a good fit of the estimated model to data. Authorities and policymakers of both developing and developed…
