Physical activity and obesity: Is there a difference in association between the Asian- and African- Surinamese adult population
Meeting PA recommendations, particularly within the commuting and leisure time domains, is associated with lower obesity prevalence in the total population. Among the African-Surinamese population, PA within the leisure time domain, more active minutes/week and higher levels of total volume are associated with a lower obesity prevalence. This is not found in the Asian-Surinamese population
Stability of and Associations Between Social-Cognitive Determinants Over Time
This study reports on the stability of social-cognitive determinants, and on associations between social-cognitive determinants to show insight in the theory of planned behavior (TPB). In all, 278 health professionals who encourage patients to become physically active completed online TPB-based surveys at baseline (Time 1 [T1]) and six months later (Time 2 [T2]). No intervention took place. No differences were found for all social-cognitive deter…
Self-reported physical activity behavior of a multi-ethnic adult population within the urban and rural setting in Suriname
Around half of the population meets the recommended PA level. Future lifestyle interventions aiming at increasing PA should especially focus on women and older individuals as they are less likely to meet the recommended levels of PA
Predictors of healthcare professionals' intention and behaviour to encourage physical activity in patients with cardiovascular risk factors
In the prevention of cardiovascular disease, healthcare professionals' intention to encourage physical activity among patients and subsequent behavior of encouraging patients is important for the improvement of patients' cardiovascular risk profiles. We found that the intentions and self-reported behavior of healthcare professionals working with patients with cardiovascular risk factors can be predicted by social-cognitive determinants thus imply…
Cardiovascular risk profile: Cross-sectional analysis of motivational determinants, physical fitness and physical activity
This study contributes to our ability to optimize cardiovascular risk profiles by demonstrating an important association between physical fitness and social-cognitive variables. Physical fitness can be predicted by physical active behavior as well as by self-efficacy and the intensity of physical activity, and the latter by physical active behavior.Physical active behavior can be predicted by intention, self-efficacy, descriptive norms and barrie…
