    Open Access•Stephanie Aguilar-Smith, Erin Doran•ARTICLE•Educational Policy•2024

Understanding the development of major educational policies is essential, especially federal policies integral to Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs)—one of the fastest-growing types of postsecondary institutions in the United States, which collectively serve over two-thirds of Latina/o/x-identified college students. Accordingly, in this archive-based study, we explore the expansion of Title V, specifically the creation of the Postbaccalaureate …

    Erin Doran, Erin E Doran•ARTICLE•College Composition and…•2024

Latinx students are a growing demographic in postsecondary English classes, but the majority of research on them and on the faculty who teach them is based in the US Southwest at Hispanic-Serving Institutions. • The Pursuit of Equal Educational Opportunity

    Open Access•Vincent D Carales, Erin Doran•ARTICLE•Educational Policy•2022

The findings suggest that MAS curriculum has a positive impact on Latina/o/x students’ …

  • The Making of ‘Ideal’ Electrical and Computer Engineers

    Rachel E Friedensen, Sarah L Rodríguez et al.•ARTICLE•Engineering Studies•2020•References: 4

This article uses document analysis to explore departmental messaging about electrical and computer engineering identity development for undergraduate students at an American research university in the Midwest. We found that these texts collectively produce an image of the ‘ideal’ electrical and computer engineer. This image depicts ‘ideal’ electrical and computer engineers as performing technical competence, being recognized for high-quality per…

  • Advocating for Mexican American studies in whitestream community colleges

Erin Doran, Paul S Hengesteg•ARTICLE•Journal of Diversity in Higher…•2019

Ethnic studies programs have recently been the target of positive and negative scrutiny in both the K-12 system and in 4-year institutions. There is a critical disconnect in the research on ethnic studies in community colleges, which serve a large proportion of racially minoritized students. Moreover, studies tend ignore how ethnic studies courses impact faculty. Using a case study approach, this study focuses on the activist actions and emotiona…

Latina students are enrolling in postsecondary education in high numbers, yet their enrollment in engineering fields remains low. Part of the challenge Latina students face is a struggle to develop a strong professional identity as an engineer. Using a phenomenological approach, this study examined the experiences of undergraduate Latina engineering students. Researchers used a four-step process to understand the meaning-making process of identit…
