  • Evaluation of Preventive Information Using Alternative Protocol

Open Access•Sarah Duché, Delphine Grancher et al.•ARTICLE•Weather, Climate, and Society•2024

To better understand individuals’ behavior in the face of a natural disaster and to evaluate the preventive information provided by French local authorities, the theatrical performance “Safe and Sound?” (“Sain et Sauf?”) and its accompanying debriefing session were tested in six French Alps municipalities in 2019 and 2020 during several 2-day sessions in collaboration with local authorities. A total of 200 people took part in this theatrical perf…

  • Paving the way to coastal adaptation pathways

  • Vulnerability to earthquake of Beirut residents (Lebanon)

Elise Beck, Stéphane Cartier et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Risk Research•2018•References: 5

Lebanon is characterized by strong but rare earthquakes. Beirut’s important urban density results in a high level of human vulnerability. A questionnaire survey performed on a sample of 176 people allows better understanding of the individual vulnerability of residents facing earthquakes. The survey questions the perceptions and the knowledge about seismic hazards, the behaviors in case of an earthquake, and the protection strategies. The results…

  • Risk perception and social vulnerability to earthquakes in Grenoble (French Alps)

    Elise Beck, Isabelle André-Poyaud et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Risk Research•2012•Cited by: 4•References: 1

The city of Grenoble (French Alps) is characterized by a rather low seismicity as well as a tectonic context prone to the occurrence of major earthquakes (M = 6). The population is therefore not used to experiencing earthquakes: this can lead to a low culture of risk, which may imply a rather high vulnerability of the population. Consequently, it is necessary to better evaluate vulnerability and to find ways of reducing it. Social vulnerability i…
