  • Seismic risk assessment of supporting structures and process piping for accident prevention in chemical facilities

Open Access•George Karagiannakis, Luigi Di Sarno et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Disaster…•2022

The seismic risk assessment of supporting structures and process piping elevated on supporting structures plays an important role in accident prevention inside process plants. Process piping is an essential yet complex network of pipes that is used inside petrochemical facilities for connecting equipment items. Even though the seismic vulnerability of process piping and supporting structures is high, as demonstrated during past accidents, the ris…

  • Natech risk reduction in the European Union

Elisabeth Krausmann, Daniele Baranzini•ARTICLE•Journal of Risk Research•2012•References: 1

A study was performed on the status of Natech risk reduction in Europeon Union Member States by means of a questionnaire survey. The results show that natural hazards are increasingly recognised as a possibly important external risk source for chemical facilities. The management of Natech risk is mainly addressed through the Member States’ legal framework for chemical-accident prevention whose effectiveness appears, however, inconclusive. Guidanc…
