Open Access•Aysun Yaralı Akkaya, Toby Long et al.•ARTICLE•Social Sciences•2026

Early childhood intervention and education play a central role in promoting equity, developmental outcomes, and long-term well-being for all children, particularly those experiencing those with disabilities or refugee status.

  • Reimagining Ummah

    Open Access•Zehra Yılmaz•ARTICLE•Religions•2024

For decades, the traditional precepts of “Turkish Islam” have defined the community structure for Turkish immigrants in The Netherlands. Today, spiritualism rather than Islamic morality is emerging as the more compelling religious practice among young people, especially among women who are looking to break out of their culturally enclosed communities. This study uses the terms “enclosure” and “opening up” as metaphors for immigrant participation …

Open Access•Zehra Yılmaz, Hilal Arslan•ARTICLE•Religion and Human Rights•2023

Despite the efforts of the women’s movement in Turkey, gender equality as a norm has been abandoned in state policies due to the rise of neoliberal authoritarianism. Our study aims to take a snapshot of religious services access and gender equality while stressing the parallel norms by focusing on justice, equality and the prohibition of discrimination. Further, since ensuring freedom of religion or belief and gender equality is the duty of the s…

    Open Access•Zehra Yılmaz, Pelin Sönmez•ARTICLE•European Journal of Cultural…•2023•References: 20

This article examines the relationship between Islam and migrant Turkish and Syrian women living in the Netherlands and their patterns of belonging, while also questioning the dynamics of identity. It reveals that religious Muslim migrants tend to exhibit their Islamic identity as a salient identity with self-representation of being Muslims. This is seen through the new ummah concept and their demands for a Sharia Council. This new definition of …
