  • Relative Risk Perceptions between Snus and Cigarettes in a Snus-Prevalent Society—An Observational Study over a 16 Year Period

Open Access•Karl Erik Lund, Tord Finne Vedøy•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2019

Background: Most studies on perceived risks of smokeless tobacco products (SLT) have been conducted in the U.S., and the vast majority conclude that perceptions of the relative harmfulness of SLT versus cigarettes in the population are inconsistent with epidemiologically-based risk estimates, and typically conflated to that of cigarettes. We tested whether such inaccuracies also existed in Norway, where SLT-products are less toxic (Swedish snus) …

  • How Has the Availability of Snus Influenced Cigarette Smoking in Norway

Open Access•Ingeborg Lund, Karl Erik Lund et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2014

The experience with snus in Norway might indicate what will happen when alternative nicotine products--are allowed to compete with cigarettes in the nicotine market

  • The relationship between snus use and smoking cognitions

Elisabeth Clare Larsen, Elisabeth Larsen et al.•ARTICLE•Addiction Research & Theory•2012

We examined whether use of snus influenced cognitions in terms of smoking expectancies and smoking prototype perceptions in a direction that could promote smoking initiation, thus highlighting potential causal mechanisms between the use of snus and smoking behavior. A telephone-based longitudinal survey among Norwegian adolescents was conducted with two points of measurement during a 1-year period in 2006-2007. The respondents were divided into f…

  • Occasional Smoking in Adolescence

Janne Scheffels, Karl Erik Lund•ARTICLE•Journal of Youth Studies•2005•Cited by: 3•References: 5

This study discusses whether adolescent occasional smokers form a distinct subgroup in comparison with daily smokers, in terms of smoking motivation, confidence in ability to quit and social and cultural characteristics. In a sample of 2484 adolescents aged 16–19, 22 per cent (n=552) were daily smokers and 20 per cent (n=495) were occasional smokers. Findings show that occasional smokers differ from daily smokers in educational choices, subgroup …

  • To what extent do parents strive to protect their children from environmental tobacco smoke in the Nordic countries? A population-based study

Karl Erik Lund, Anders Skrondal et al.•ARTICLE•Tobacco Control•1998

Environmental tobacco smoke at home is still a problem for many children in the Nordic countries. However, most smoking parents reported having made efforts to change their smoking behaviour for the sake of their children; and in approximately half of all households containing at least one daily smoker, parents reported protecting their children from ETS exposure in the home. Although actual exposure may be higher owing to possible under-reportin…
