  • Revisiting presentative particles: A multimodal study of the Hebrew particle hine

    The present study explores the Israeli Hebrew particle hine , traditionally classified as a presentative particle, through a pragmatic-interactional lens using mostly video-recorded data. Our findings challenge the conventional view that hine primarily serves to draw attention to a referent. Utterances that do not fit into this view because they lack a subject are usually regarded as elliptical or as non-sentential utterances.     This paper describes the initial design of the Corpus of Spoken Israeli Hebrew (CoSIH). CoSIH will attempt to include a representation of most varieties of spoken Hebrew as it is used in Israel today. CoSIH is designed to consist of two complementary corpora: a main corpus and a supplementary corpus.
