  • Public funding accountability

    Open Access•Antonio Perianes‐Rodríguez, Carlos Olmeda‐Gómez et al.•ARTICLE•Scientometrics•2024

Fortunately, newly published findings and promising data sources presented in recent years have helped better our understanding of the process of scientific creation and communication and provide evidence of the importance of FAs. This paper seeks to help demonstrate the crucial role FAs play in evaluating research funding’s performance. A methodology based on the use of linked open metadata from diverse sources is presented for this purpose. The…

  • Anatomy of the top 1% most highly cited publications

    Open Access•Antonio Perianes‐Rodríguez, Antonio J Gomez-Nuñez et al.•ARTICLE•Quantitative Science Studies•2024

Scientific excellence is an ongoing object of quantitative analysis of science and technology literature. The most commonly adopted of the various criteria for such quantification is to define highly cited papers as the ones lying in the first percentile (top 1%) of citation counts. Wagner and colleagues have recently proposed a new method in which citation counts are determined as a whole, irrespective of discipline. This study analyzes the prac…

  • Altmetrics as a research specialty (Dimensions, 2005-2018)

    Open Access•Carlos Olmeda‐Gómez, Antonio Perianes‐Rodríguez•ARTICLE•El Profesional de la Informacion•2019•References: 4

The scientific literature on altmetrics published from 2005 to 2018 was analysed. The overall structure of the speciality's intellectual landscape is depicted through clusters of co-cited references, analysing journal and author co-citations. The 56,936 references cited in the 8,145 papers of all kinds retrieved from the Dimensions bibliographic database were included in the initial dataset used in the analysis. Pathfinder networks were generated…

  • La ciencia de los alimentos georreferenciada. Aproximación bibliométrica a nivel institucional

    Open Access•Vicente P Guerrero‐bote, Carlos Olmeda‐Gómez et al.•ARTICLE•El Profesional de la Informacion•2016•Cited by: 1•References: 2

A bibliometric analysis of research production in scientific journals, of the Scopus subject category Food Science, between 2003 and 2013, from seventy-one Spanish institutions with at least fifty works published, is presented. Statistical z tests are used for an evaluation of the degree to which an observed number of top-cited papers (top-10%) for an institution differs from the number expected, on the basis of randomness in the selection of pap…

  • Visualización de información

    Open Access•Carlos Olmeda‐Gómez•ARTICLE•El Profesional de la Informacion•2014•Cited by: 2

This overview introduces and synthesizes some basic concepts of the broad spectrum of information visualization, providing examples with geospatial, relational and textual data from a demanding discipline. The concepts are discussed and the examples illustrate some practices and criteria

  • Colegios visibles

    Open Access•Carlos Olmeda‐Gómez, Antonio Perianes‐Rodríguez et al.•ARTICLE•El Profesional de la Informacion•2009•References: 7

The results of a study of social networking by professors’ co-memberships in library and information science PhD juries between 1993 and 2006 are presented. Degree reduction and k-core methods are used to extract sub-networks and a Ward’s hierarchical cluster analysis is performed. The resulting network identifies five classes, whose members are actors occupying similar social positions, and at the same time different mechanisms, based mainly in …

  • Introducción al análisis de redes

    Open Access•Antonio Perianes‐Rodríguez, Carlos Olmeda‐Gómez et al.•ARTICLE•El Profesional de la Informacion•2008•Cited by: 1•References: 6

Despite its long existence and international acceptance, network theory and analysis is a practically unknown approach in Documentation, both theoretically and methodologically speaking. Fortunately, this trend is changing, inasmuch as network theory and analysis may mean a quantitative and qualitative leap forward in the representation and analysis of the structure of all types of scientific domains, whether geographic, thematic or institutional…
