Which forest type do visitors find most attractive? Integrating management activities with the recreational attractiveness of forests at a landscape level
This article presents a spatially integrated method for forest management planning and outdoor recreation in forest areas. A survey of 1402 respondents with varied socio-demographic profiles assessed the recreational attractiveness of forest areas. We classified silvicultural regimes into four categories (no management, low, medium, and high-intensity management) and mapped the potential attractiveness of forest areas by means of exploratory spat…
Intervention analysis of Covid-19 pandemic impact on timber price in selected markets
Using intervention analysis and time series of roundwood prices from ten European and North American countries, we analyzed the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the movement of timber prices. The study material consists of forty-six quarterly time series prices of logs and pulp, both softwood and hardwood, covering the period 2005–2022. During the Covid-19 pandemic period (2020:Q1-2020:Q4), softwood log prices mostly underwent declines, with th…
Identifying long-run and short-run relationships in the European Union softwood market
We analyzed the relationship of the softwood market in chosen EU countries. The long-run relationship was tested using the multivariate Johansen procedure and bivariate Engle-Granger cointegration test. Precedence and causality of markets in the short-run were tested using the weak exogeneity test for cointegrated markets and the Granger causality test for not cointegrated. The material consists of quarterly sawlog and pulpwood delivery prices (s…
Evaluating a seasonal autoregressive moving average model with an exogenous variable for short-term timber price forecasting
In this paper roundwood prices were forecasted by means of the following time series models: (1) classical univariate autoregressive moving average (ARIMA), (2) seasonal univariate (SARIMA), and (3) seasonal bivariate with an exogenous variable (SARIMAX). The data consisted of time series of the nominal prices of pine, spruce, beech, birch, and alder roundwood and the construction confidence index (CCI) in Poland for the years 2005–2020. The resu…
