  • A Sarmatian-period ceramic tripod from Rákóczifalva

    Open Access•Zsófia Masek•ARTICLE•Communicationes Archaeologicae…•2021

A medium-sized late Sarmatian–Hun-period settlement was excavated at the Rákóczifalva-Bagi-földek 5 site in 2006. The present study offers a detailed assessment of a unique vessel from the site, which yielded a very rich ceramic inventory. The large three-legged vessel is without exact parallels in the period’s published material. A review of the late antique parallels suggests that the vessel is an adoption of late Roman-early Byzantine metal ve…

  • A fresh look at Hunnic cauldrons in the light of a new find from Hungary

    Zsófia Masek•ARTICLE•Acta Archaeologica Academiae…•2017

The discovery of a fragment of a Hunnic cauldron by a metal detectorist acted as the springboard of this study, in which various aspects of Hunnic cauldrons are discussed: their findspots and find contexts, their typology, their dating and their origins. Questions regarding the broader cultural context of Hunnic cauldrons in the Roman and the Hunnic Empires are also addressed, as are their functional, ritual and social dimensions. The archaeologi…

Rákóczifalva község határában a 2006-2007-ben feltárt szarmata temetőben egy rabolatlan, közepesen gazdag női temetkezés is előkerült. A sír jelentőségét a Barbaricumban és a provinciális területen is egyedinek és ritkának számító bronzfibulák adják, melyeket barbaricumi ezüstékszerekkel - hajkarikapár, tordírozott torques, spirálkarú lunula - együtt találtak. A lemezrátétes cikádafibula gyártástechnikája a tárgytípusra nem jellemző, római eredet…
