Heterogeneities of Smartphone Use Among Chinese Urban Older Adults
Drawing on a qualitative analysis of semi-structured interview data, this research adopts a life course perspective to examine how Chinese urban older adults adjust their smartphone use in response to significant life events across later life. The findings reveal that multi-level life events foster a dynamic continuum of (dis)connection. At the same time, adaptive and maladaptive use patterns coexist among Chinese urban older adults, demonstratin…
National Policies and Educational Technology in Six Countries
National policies significantly shape resource allocation and priorities in EdTech development. This paper presents insights from six countries through a systems thinking perspective. Drawing on lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic, the authors explore how national policies evolved in response to global EdTech trends. Each country offers unique approaches as case studies. China emphasizes digital transformation and the use of artificial intelligenc…

Bidirectional relations of epistemic beliefs and their impact on student engagement across GenAI platforms
Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) is rapidly being adopted in educational settings, with many studies focusing on students’ learning behaviors and outcomes. However, little is known about how students’ epistemic beliefs (EB) develop over time and how these beliefs influence engagement in GenAI-supported environments. To examine the bidirectional relationships between EB and the impact of these beliefs on student engagement, a longitudina…

Unpacking Teacher and Parent Involvement Patterns
While teachers and parents are both pivotal in shaping students' academic development, a pattern‐centred understanding of how the school and family microsystems operate differently within the homework mesosystem remains underdeveloped. To address this gap, this study employed a latent profile analysis to identify distinct patterns of teacher and parent homework involvement among Chinese students ( N = 2110; 49.20% female; aged 9–16). The analysis…
Integrating Project‐Based Learning With Self‐Regulated Learning to Enhance Programming Learning Motivation
Does participating in online communities enhance the effectiveness and experience of micro-learning? Evidence from a randomized control trial
In the age of information explosion, people are increasingly accustomed to acquiring knowledge during fragmented periods of time, which has contributed to the growing popularity of micro-learning. However, when micro-learning takes place in non-formal or informal settings, it can be easily disrupted and may lack interaction, negatively impacting the learning experience and knowledge acquisition. This study examined the effect of learning communit…

Junior secondary students’ acceptance and continuance of e-learning system use
Although previous research into adults’ acceptance or continued use of technology has been extensive, there is a lack of research study that investigated e-learning systems acceptance and continuance of teenagers with different social backgrounds. This study aimed to explore the cognitive, emotional, and behavioural factors that motivate teenagers’ acceptance and continuance of e-learning system use, and to compare such system use behaviours acro…

The significance of cultural capital and parental mediation for digital inequity
A digital divide continues to be reported across and within nations, first as an access issue and second as an issue of effective usage. To address the latter issue, we argue that digital equity should not be conceptualized solely as a technical or resource related issue. We developed a conceptual framework based on cultural capital and parental mediation to investigate the complexity of digital inequity. Our in-depth case study of 22 Hong Kong s…
