Descriptive Trajectories of Life-Course Deviance for Justice-Involved Veterans
Despite a breadth of research linking military service to positive and negative life-course outcomes, questions remain about the contextual relationship between military service and deviance across the life-course. Employing a life-course perspective using qualitative life-course interviews, the current study explores life-course deviance of 90 justice-involved veterans by investigating deviance before, during, and after military service. Hidden in plain sight. Global heating, the small water cycle, and the social contract
Greenhouse gases do not generate heat. Bare ground is the furnace: vegetation and the water cycle provide the air-conditioning. Heat is emitted as infrared radiation; greenhouse gases in the atmosphere absorb some of this outgoing radiation which then heats the atmosphere or is reabsorbed by the land and, mainly, the oceans. So, control of greenhouse gas emissions is necessary and urgent – but it will not be enough to arrest global heating and do…

Identifying the Prevalence of Courses on Mental Illness in Criminal Justice Education
Persons with Mental Illness (PMIs) require unique consideration and individualized attention in the criminal justice system. Research has demonstrated the prevalence with which police come into contact with these individuals, the unique considerations made by courtrooms serving PMIs, the overrepresentation of PMIs in correctional settings, and the problems PMIs experience when reentering the community from incarceration. Given the growth of atten…
Families coming together in prison
Despite great strides in research on the collateral consequences of incarceration, we know relatively little about family life during imprisonment. In an effort to extend prior work, the current study examines family processes among caregivers, prisoners, and children during prison visitation. Drawing from in-depth interviews with 52 caregivers of children of incarcerated parents, we use open and axial coding techniques to identify the interactio…
