  • Contextual Factors and Programme Theories Associated with Implementing Blue Prescription Programmes

Open Access•Julius Cesar Alejandre, Sébastien Chastin et al.•ARTICLE•Health & Social Care in the…•2023

Nature-based social prescribing such as “blue prescription” promotes public health and health improvement of individuals with long-term health conditions. However, there is limited evidence explaining the relationship of contexts, mechanisms, and outcomes of implementing blue prescription programmes (BPPs) in health and social care settings that could inform policy and practice. We conducted a systematic realist review by searching PubMed, Web of…

  • Understanding knowledge needs for Scotland to become a resilient Hydro Nation

    Open Access•Kerr Adams, Kerr J Adams et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Science & Policy•2022•Cited by: 2•References: 3

Freshwater resources provide ecosystem services that support human prosperity and development. Future changes in climate, land-use, and population could lead to detrimental impacts on freshwater quality and quantity, threatening drinking water, irrigation and energy production. To increase resilience there is the need to better understand the possible impacts of future changes on freshwaters. We use Scotland – and its legislative agenda ‘Scotland…

  • An Assessment of the Performance of the PLUS+ Tool in Supporting the Evaluation of Water Framework Directive Compliance in Scottish Standing Waters

Open Access•David Donnelly, Rachel Helliwell et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

Phosphorus is one of the main causes of waterbodies in Scotland being at less than good ecological status (GES) in terms of the water framework directive (WFD). In Scotland, there are more than 8000 standing waters, defined as lakes and reservoirs that have a surface area of more than 0.5 km 2 . Only about 330 of these are monitored routinely to assess compliance with the WFD. The export coefficient tool PLUS+ (phosphorus land use and slope) has …

  • A transdisciplinary approach to the economic analysis of the European Water Framework Directive

    Open Access•Julia Martin-Ortega, Ángel Perni et al.•ARTICLE•Ecological Economics•2015

  • Who Put the N in PristiNe

Open Access•Rachel Helliwell, Andrea J Britton et al.•ARTICLE•Mountain Research and Development•2008

The last few decades have seen an exponential increase in the atmospheric concentration of reactive nitrogen. This has led to concerns from scientists, ecologists, and land managers regarding a cascade of ecosystem impacts, and the potential for elevated atmospheric inputs to significantly alter nutrient-poor systems. At particular risk are fragile mountain ecosystems, normally low in nutrients. Control of enhanced nitrogen deposition is required…
