  • Is the social chunking of agent actions in working memory resource-demanding

Open Access•Xiqian Lu, Alessandro Dai et al.•ARTICLE•Cognition•2022

  • Development of information integration in the visual working memory of preschoolers

Open Access•Dong Guo, Yudan Wang et al.•ARTICLE•Child Development•2022

Visual working memory (WM) plays a pivotal role in integrating fragments into meaningful units, but no study has addressed how visual WM integration takes place in children. The current study examined whether WM integration emerges once preschoolers master Gestalt cue and can retain two representations in WM (automatic integration hypothesis), or still needs time to mature (maturation-of-integration hypothesis). Four experiments (N = 168, 81 fema…

  • Emotional states affect the retention of biological motion in working memory

Yang Guo, Wenmin Li et al.•ARTICLE•Emotion•2019

Retaining biological motion (BM), or the movements of animate entities, in working memory (WM) is critical to human social life. Moreover, as functioning members of society, we always process BM in a specific emotional state. However, no WM study to date has explored the influence of emotional state on processing BM in WM. As a first step, the current study examined the influence of emotional state on WM capacity for BM. We first induced a specif…

  • Development of interactive biological motion perception in preschoolers and its relation to social competence

    Open Access•Shuyi Zhai, Yuxi Ma et al.•ARTICLE•Social Development•2019•References: 4

The perception of interactive biological motion (BM) plays an important role in social life. Such social perception enables people to understand the underlying social intentions and social relationships in interactive actions, so that they can anticipate the behavior response in an appropriate manner. Although interaction perception has been widely explored in adults, little is known about preschoolers' developmental trajectory of interaction per…
