  • Empathy and affect: What can empathied bodies do

George R Marshall, George Robert Ellison Marshall et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Humanities•2016•Cited by: 1•References: 14

While there has been much interest in the apparent benefits of empathy in improving outcomes of medical care, there is continuing concern over the philosophical nature of empathy. We suggest that part of the difficulty in coming to terms with empathy is due to the modernist dichotomies that have structured Western medical discourse, such that doctor and patient, knower and known, cognitive and emotional, subject and object are situated in opposit…

  • Effect of Total Association and Conceptual Cohesiveness among Words on Recall, Clustering, and Recognition Association

    Open Access•George R Marshall•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1967

Two indices of verbal relatedness, the Index of Total Association (ITA) and the Index of Concept Cohesiveness (ICC) computed from single-response free word-associations were used to design lists of words presented to Ss for free recall for three successive trials. Amount of free recall and clustering in recall were significantly related to ITA, ICC, and trials. Amount recalled was more sensitive to total association (ITA) than to recoding process…

  • Relationship between Two Measures of Verbal Relatedness: Preliminary Report

    Open Access•Bertram E Garskof, Bertram Garskof et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1965

Two measures of associative overlap between word pairs, the Mutual Relatedness Index (MR) and the Relatedness Coefficient (RC), computed from group single response free word associations and continued word associations from individual Ss, respectively, were computed from norms obtained from the same Ss for two samples of word pairs. The correlation between MR and RC for the two samples, was .540 and .504. With correction for attenuation, the corr…
