Open Access•Daniel Gudiño Pérez, Celeste Macevicius et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Drug…•2026

Our study builds on the importance of evaluating problem representations in the process of policymaking. The RMG illustrates how crisis-driven policymaking shapes problem representations, enabling rapid intervention through the COVID-19 response while constraining responses to the toxic drug emergency. As a medicalized emergency response, the RMG addressed contagion but failed to confront the structural drivers of toxic drug deaths. Our study hig…

  • Listening otherwise: From “silent tourism” soundscapes to privileged sonic ways of knowing

    Open Access•Susan Frohlick, Celeste Macevicius•ARTICLE•Tourist Studies•2023•Cited by: 5•References: 11

This paper explores quests for silence in tourism in English-language online media. We offer a reading of media forms all articulating a soundscape of silence: a preferred sonic environment for tourists’ health and well-being. A relational and reflexive approach allows us to interrogate these taken-for-granted desired silences, and to emplace ourselves in the analysis. Using critical discourse analysis, we try to listen to the sounds produced in …
