Application of Cultural Metaphors and Cross-Cultural Paradoxes in the Classroom
This article consists of eight “mini-articles,” which describe how each author or authors employ cultural metaphors and/or cross-cultural paradoxes in their classrooms (see also the article “Cultural metaphors and cross-cultural paradoxes” in unit 7.1)
Coding Personhood Through Cultural Terms and Practices
All known languages include within them terms and phrases that describe communicative action specifically and pragmatic action generally. A special subclass of those terms identifies ways of speaking and ways of being silent. This study explores Finnish terms for, and social practices of, quietude (in Finnish, hiljaisuus). Communicating Cultural Dimensions of Gender-related Identity in Female Austrian and Finnish Business Students' Responses to Joanna Kramer (and to each other)
This paper discusses aspects of Austrian and Finnish female business students' responses to the acts and speech of Joanna Kramer in the Oscar winning American film Kramer vs. Kramer.
