Empirical research on green jobs
Green jobs is a priority area in advancing socio-economic transitions to enhance an environmentally sustainable economy, particularly in democracies. This paper firstly provides a review of different focuses of empirical research on green jobs and then conducts focus groups with practitioners to attain their critical perspective on priority areas. Through review it was found that job creation, net job creation or other macro impact studies are mo…
Decarbonising heating and cooling
Aquifer thermal energy storage (ATES) is a shallow geothermal technology which can contribute to heating and cooling decarbonisation. The low global deployment of ATES does not match its technical potential. Understanding relevant societal challenges and opportunities is crucial for scaling up ATES deployment. Here, we draw upon a Responsible Innovation (RI) framework to assess the social desirability, opportunities, and limitations applying to w…
Job creation in a low carbon transition to renewables and energy efficiency
In this paper, we present findings from a systematic review on job creation, quality, and skills, focusing on decarbonisation in the energy sector. We compare a range of gross job employment factors which indicate that overall, investment in renewable energy and energy efficiency can deliver more jobs than gas or coal power generation. In addition, we review a subset of recent studies which estimate the net employment effects of decarbonisation i…
