Exploring communicative responses to collaborative music therapy and speech and language therapy in young children with acquired communication impairments
Music therapy for young children with acquired communication impairments
Introduction: Acquired communication impairments (ACIs) can significantly hinder the development and functioning of language and communication in children, impeding their social interactions and self-expression. Music therapy is emerging as a favourable practice in supporting children with ACIs; however, a deeper understanding of the clinical practices of music therapists with this population is required to advance service provision.Method: This …
Passion for nature
Despite the relevance of forests to biodiversity and climate change, education and careers related to them are still unattractive to young people. This paper presents findings from a study whose goal is to investigate the motivation and career aspirations of students in forest-related programmes at the university/tertiary level around the globe. The analysis is based on data gathered through a survey of 787 bachelor's, master's, and PhD students …
Taking stock of population-level interventions targeting risk factors for hypertension and diabetes in Rwanda and South Africa
Conducting a situational analysis is crucial for understanding the current state of interventions and identifying opportunities for new interventions. The multi-component methodology used in two African countries was found to be feasible, appropriate, and informative. Others planning to conduct situational analysis may follow, adapt and improve upon our approach, reacting to the challenges encountered
What is typical
While attention dysregulation is a promising early indicator of neurodevelopmental risk, in particular attention‐deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), it is difficult to characterize clinical concern due to its developmental expectability at the transition to toddlerhood. Thus, explicating the typical:atypical continuum of risk indicators is among the key future directions for research to promote early identification and intervention, and preven…
Evaluation of Fe isotope values as a provenance tool for chert artefacts from the north‐eastern United States
Iron (Fe) isotope compositions of prehistoric stone tools and geological sources were compared to evaluate the robustness of this isotopic fingerprinting technique. Artefacts and source materials were collected from the Hatch site in central Pennsylvania, United States, where both veined chert (Bald Eagle chert) and stone tools coexist within several metres. Yellow artefacts ( δ 56 Fe = 0.38 ± 0.1, n = 7) and source materials ( δ 56 Fe = 0.42 ± 0…
Effects of 2 Prevention Programs on High-Risk Behaviors Among African American Youth
OBJECTIVE: To test the efficacy of 2 programs designed to reduce high-risk behaviors among inner-city African American youth. DESIGN: Cluster randomized trial. SETTING: Twelve metropolitan Chicago, Ill, schools and the communities they serve, 1994 through 1998. PARTICIPANTS: Students in grades 5 through 8 and their parents and teachers. INTERVENTIONS: The social development curriculum (SDC) consisted of 16 to 21 lessons per year focusing on socia…
Vertebrate paleontology and the alleged ice-free corridor
Effects of temperature and prior residence on territorial aggression in the convict cichlidCichlasoma nigrofasciatum
Aggression in the convict cichlid Cichlasoma nigrofasciatum was measured under two different environmental parameters after introduction of a conspecific intruder. Measurements were made after 24-hr and 48-hr teritorial residence times at both 26°C and 30°C. Eight fish established territories in individual tanks each containing one terra cotta pot. Intruders contained in a glass cylinder were introduced into the territories. An opaque divider sep…
