From ‘I’ to ‘We’ - Conceptualising the work and experiences of managers in fostering collective leadership
Despite a growing interest in collective and distributed forms of leadership to meet the current challenges in healthcare organisations, little empirical research has focused on the manager role in studies with a collectivistic leadership ontology. To address this gap, we applied the concept of relatedness from Self-Determination Theory to analyse the work of managers across various organisational levels in a high-performing Swedish healthcare re…
Introducing strategic measures in public facilities management organizations
To increase knowledge about the consequences of introducing strategic measures in public organizations, for both intra- and interorganizational relationships, interviews in eight - and shadowing in two - public facilities management organizations were performed. Using a frame for data analysis based on institutional work, findings show that, when introducing strategic measures, public officials worked to place their organizations in a new positio…
Causal Effects of the Timing of Life-course Events
In this article, we combine the extensive literature on the analysis of life-course trajectories as sequences with the literature on causal inference and propose a new matching approach to investigate the causal effect of the timing of life-course events on subsequent outcomes. Our matching approach takes into account pre-event confounders that are both time-independent and time-dependent as well as life-course trajectories. After matching, treat…
The Role of Gender in Students’ Ratings of Teaching Quality in Computer Science and Environmental Engineering
Students' ratings of teaching quality on course units in a computer science program and an environmental engineering program at a large Swedish university were obtained using the Course Experience Questionnaire; 8888 sets of ratings were obtained from men and 4280 sets were obtained from women over ten academic years. These student ratings from the two programs showed certain differences; in particular, teachers tended to receive higher ratings i…
Family Life Course and the Timing of Women's Retirement – a Sequence Analysis Approach
Based on longitudinal data from national Swedish registers, family life course dynamics for all women born in 1935 in Sweden are explored for the period 1990–2006. Focusing primarily on the existence and geographical proximity to parents, children, and grandchildren, assuming that the family life courses affect the life situation as well as strategic decisions, this longitudinal study uses a holistic approach, analysing how different types of fam…
