Integrating epidemiologic analysis and mixed methods design to advance place-based community health research
The Disproportionate Impact of the Covid ‐19 Pandemic on Preventive Dental Care and Treatment for Children Who Are American Indian
These findings aid in identifying groups of students whose oral health was disproportionately impacted by the disruption in community-based, preventive dental care services during the pandemic for the purpose of future intervention
Training Dental Teams to Address Community Health
Successful implementation of the curriculum required active participation and partnership with state provider associations, the office of Medicaid, the state Board of Dental Licensure, and others. Without engaged partners, the curriculum would not have been community relevant, nor would it have had case presentation from local providers. Anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, and professional quality of life among the hospital workforce during a global health pandemic

Rural mental health care during a global health pandemic
The adoption of tele-mental health by mental health professionals has been slow, especially in rural areas. Prior to 2020, less than half of mental health agencies offered tele-mental health for patients. In response to the global health pandemic in March of 2020, mental health therapists across the U.S. were challenged to make the rapid shift to tele-mental health to provide patient care. Given the lack of adoption of tele-mental health previous…

Participants completed the Day’s Mental Illness Stigma Scale, a nationally validated instrument for measuring stigma. Directors of Chambers of Commerce in North Dakota distributed the electronic survey to their m…
Identifying Variability in Patient Characteristics and Prevalence of Emergency Department Utilization for Mental Health Diagnoses in Rural and Urban Communities
PURPOSE: In order to redirect at-risk patients to more appropriate, cost-effective behavioral health care, research must identify the prevalence, and common characteristics, of patients presenting to the emergency department (ED) for mental disorders. QUESTION: Are large, small, and/or isolated rural patients presenting to the ED for mental disorders in greater proportion than urban ED patients? METHODS: Analyses included data from the Health Car…
