  • Patterns of Drug and Polydrug Detection in Drivers Suspected of Driving Under the Influence of an Intoxicant in Ireland 2019–2020

Open Access•Louise Durand, Aoife O'Kane et al.•ARTICLE•Drug and Alcohol Review•2026

  • Impact of guidance issued during Covid-19 to expand access to take-home dosing of opioid agonist treatment (OAT) on OAT prescribing practices in primary care in Ireland

Open Access•Louise Durand, Eamon Keenan et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Drug…•2026

Aims To examine the impact of changes in guidance for take-home doses (THDs) of OAT during COVID-19 on THD prescribing in primary care in Ireland. Methods Cross-sectional data on all prescriptions of OAT (methadone or buprenorphine) in primary care (2018–2023). Weekly percentage change in numbers prescribed 0–1, 2–5, 6–13, ≥14 THDs after the guidance release (13th March 2020) were assessed using interrupted time series autoregressive moving avera…

  • Consensus recommendations for opioid agonist treatment following the introduction of emergency clinical guidelines in Ireland during the Covid-19 pandemic

Open Access•Louise Durand, Eamon Keenan et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Drug…•2022

The agreed statements relate to facilitating safe access to OAT with minimal waiting time, supporting patient-centred care to promote health and well-being, and preventing drug overdose. Notably, consensus was no…

  • Association of Opioid Agonist Treatment With All-Cause Mortality and Specific Causes of Death Among People With Opioid Dependence

Thomas Santo, Brodie Clark et al.•ARTICLE•JAMA Psychiatry•2021

Importance Mortality among people with opioid dependence is higher than that of the general population. Opioid agonist treatment (OAT) is an effective treatment for opioid dependence; however, there has not yet been a systematic review on the relationship between OAT and specific causes of mortality. Objective To estimate the association of time receiving OAT with mortality. Data Sources The Embase, MEDLINE, and PsycINFO databases were searched t…

  • Life Course Transitions and Changes in Alcohol Consumption Among Older Irish Adults

Objective: The objective of this study was to determine whether trajectories of older adults' alcohol consumption are influenced by the following life course transitions, relationship status, employment status, and self-rated health. Method: Volume and frequency of drinking were harmonized across first three waves of The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA; N = 4,295). Multilevel regression models were used to model frequency, average weekl…
