The “ART review”
Contemporary antiretroviral therapy (ART) is well-tolerated, safe and has simple dosing schedules. Here we evaluate a clinic wide initiative that uses detailed ART reviews when switching highly treatment-experienced individuals with or without HIV viremia to new regimens. We hypothesized that viral suppression post-switch would be maintained or improved. Persons who had a comprehensive ART review performed between March 2016 and December 2020 for…
Attitudes to disclosure of HIV-serostatus to new sexual partners and sexual behaviours among HIV-diagnosed gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men in the UK
We assessed attitudes to disclosure to new sexual partners and association with sexual behaviours among HIV-diagnosed gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM) in the UK Antiretrovirals, Sexual Transmission Risk and Attitudes (ASTRA) study in 2011-12. Among 1373 GBMSM diagnosed with HIV for ≥3 months and reporting sex in the past three months (84% on antiretroviral therapy (ART), 75% viral load (VL) ≤50c/mL), 56.3% reported highe…
Recreational drug use, polydrug use, and sexual behaviour in HIV-diagnosed men who have sex with men in the UK
BACKGROUND: Recreational drug use in men who have sex with men (MSM) is of concern because it might be linked to the transmission of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. Evidence about drug use in HIV-diagnosed MSM in the UK is limited by representativeness of the study populations. We describe patterns of drug use and associations with sexual behaviours in HIV-diagnosed MSM in the UK. METHODS: We used data from the cross-sectional ASTR…

THIS STUDY WAS DESIGNED TO ASSESS differences in the content of HIPAA authorization forms now required for clinical research. Authorization forms were collected from 111 institutions, including academic medical centers and commercial Institutional Review Boards. The requirement for an element covering the use of information acquired was fulfilled in 95% of the forms, and 100% had a statement fulfilling the core requirement of a description of the…
Education Level, Primary Language, and Comprehension of the Informed Consent Process
TO OBTAIN INFORMATION ON HOW PERSONS from diverse backgrounds experience the informed consent process, we surveyed adults with a wide variety of educational levels and different primary languages (English, Spanish, or Vietnamese) who had recently enrolled in a study requiring written informed consent. Of the 100 participants, 62 were non-White, 43 had less than a high school education, and 60 had a primary language other than English. The median …
